WILLIAM DUVAL

WAITS RIVER — William Duval, 68, died on Jan. 3, 2015, at his home in Waits River.

He was born in Rutland on Dec. 9, 1946, the son of Charles L. and Germaine Duval. He grew up as one of 10 siblings in Castleton and graduated from Fair Haven Union High School in 1965. He served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Guam during the Vietnam War.

Duval started his culinary career at the Norwich Inn and later went on to become chef at the Trapp Family Lodge, the Balsams Grand Resort Hotel and Woodbound Inn. He was recognized as the Chef of New Hampshire in 1984.

JOHN LENK

FERRISBURGH, Vt./ SUPPLY, N.C. — John P. Lenk, 96, passed away Thursday, Jan. 1, 2015, at his home in Supply, N.C.

He was born Nov. 11, 1918, in Brooklyn, N.Y., the son of Rudolph and Elizabeth Denmann Lenk.

He served 20 years in the U.S. Navy during WWII and the Korean War and retired in 1958. Then he worked for 15 years at the New York State Mental Hospital. In 1974 he moved to Vermont and worked at Rivers Edge Campground around 30 years.

SAMUEL PALMER

BRANDON — Samuel Reed Palmer, 26, died unexpectedly Jan. 1, 2015.

He was born Oct. 23, 1988, in Middlebury. He graduated from Otter Valley Union High School, class of 2006, where he played football and was a member of the 2005 state champion team. He was also a member of the wrestling team and in 2006 was state champion in the 189-pound category.

He graduated from Plymouth State University with a degree in criminal justice and went on to work with troubled juveniles.

BRANDON — Jacqueline Ann “Jackie” Brown, age 70, died Monday, Jan. 5, 2015, at the home of her son in Brandon.

RAYMOND COOK

NEW HAVEN — Raymond Cook, 75, of New Haven died peacefully surrounded by family at Porter Hospital on Jan. 1, 2015. 

He was born on Sept. 3, 1939, in Hubbardton, the son of Albert and Geraldine Cook.

He spent six years in the service and then his work career was split between carpentry and driving his truck. His family says he was an avid deer hunter and spent many years hunting the Vermont and Maine woods. He enjoyed playing cards and watching football.

DOEKE DAM

WEST FERRISBURGH — Doeke Dam, 79, of West Ferrisburgh died peacefully on Friday, Jan. 2, 2015, at the Vermont Respite House in Williston.

He was born on Sept. 24, 1935, in Kollum, Friesland, in the Netherlands, to Beert and Ynskje (Abma) Dam. After elementary school and agricultural school, he worked for six months on a farm in France and for several years on his family’s farm. He married Wikje Roeda in Friesland in 1958, and one month later they immigrated to the United States (where Wikje changed her name to Wilma).

HARRIS LAROCQUE

RIPTON — Harris Eugene Larocque passed away Jan. 2, 2015, at his home in Ripton at the age of 67 after a long illness.

He was born Sept. 21, 1947, in Salisbury, son of Omer and Yvonne (Quenneville) Larocque. Harris graduated from MUHS in 1966. He started working at a young age on a dairy farm for Donald Goodrich in Salisbury. After several years of farming, Harris took a job at Middlebury College. He worked for 29 years in the meat cutting department before he was forced to retire in 2005 due to poor health.

C. WALLY SHONNARD

FERRISBURGH — C. Wally Shonnard died unexpectedly and peacefully with family by his side, on Jan. 4, 2015, at Ravensnest, the lakeside home in Ferrisburgh he has enjoyed for more than 35 years and where he also created a family business at which he worked, invented and lived a full and productive life.

JEANNINE BOLDUC

VERGENNES — Jeannine “Lucile” Bolduc, 94, of Vergennes died on Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2014, at Roscoe Care Home in Bristol.

She was born at home in St. Constant, Quebec, Canada, on April 11, 1920, the daughter of Hilaire and Laurentia (Boyer) Bolduc.

Submitting an obituary

The Addison Independent publishes paid and free obituaries. Paid obituaries run just as submitted with a charge of $9.00 per column inch, and the editor shapes free obituaries to conform to our editorial style. We run photos of the person if they are submitted in a relatively high-quality format.

Generally, obituaries follow this form:
TOWN - Name, age, of town, died on date, of cause of death. He/She was born on date in town, the son/daughter of father's name and mother's name, including maiden name in parentheses.

Then include a paragraph or two about where the person went to school and what they did for work; where they lived, who they married and when.

Add a sentence or two about what made the person special to family and friends, including hobbies, avocations or other telling details about their life.

He/She is survived by spouse's name; children named individually (and their spouses and towns of residence, if appropriate); siblings named individually; number of grandchildren, parents or other immediate family members.

He/She was predeceased by names of immediate family members.

A memorial service will be held (fill in details of date, time, and place, plus officiate if applicable) with interment at (place). Memorial contributions may be made to (name and complete address, if applicable).
