JOHN R. RULE

PROCTOR — John R. Rule, 66, of Proctor passed away Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2015, at Rutland Medical Center.

He was born on Aug. 12, 1949, in Fort Monmouth, N.J., the son of Robert S. Rule and Sylvia I. Steady.

Predeceased by his father, Robert Stanley Rule, and his grandparents.

RICHARD C. STONE

NEW HAVEN — Richard C. Stone, 83, of New Haven died Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2015, at Birchwood Terrace Nursing Home in Burlington.

He was born June 13, 1932, in Clinton, Mass., the son of Walter and Mary (Smith) Stone.

JOHN 'JACK' TYNAN

VERGENNES — John “Jack” Tynan, 83, of Vergennes passed away Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2015, in Burlington following a brief illness. He was born in Des Moines, Iowa, Feb. 14, 1932, the son of H.A. Tynan and Theresa Marie (Schrack) Tynan.

MARJORIE CLAGETT

MIDDLEBURY — Longtime Middlebury resident Marjorie Clagett died Oct. 16, 2015.

She was born May 19, 1918. She was a gardener, flower arranger, skier and avid hockey fan, and was always stylish. She is reunited with John at last.

A tea will be held in her honor on Tuesday, Dec. 1, from 1-3 p.m. at St. Stephen’s Parish Hall in Middlebury. ◊

SANDRA RUVERA

MIDDLEBURY —Sandra Josephine Ruvera, 73, of Middlebury, formerly of Barre, died Monday, Nov. 23, 2015, at the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington after a long illness.

DONALD METCALF

NEW HAVEN — Donald H. Metcalf, 88, of New Haven died Nov. 21, 2015, at Helen Porter Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Middlebury.

He was born June 13, 1927, in New Brunswick, the son of Joseph H. and Florence Metcalf (Kirker). He graduated from Clifton (N.J.) High School. He served with the U.S. Navy during WWII, from May 14, 1945, to July 29, 1946. He received the American Theatre Medal and the Victory Medal.

LEO COTE

BRANDON — Leo Andre Cote, 77, died Thursday, Nov. 19, 2015, at his home in Brandon.

He was born in Claremont, N.H., on July 28, 1938, the son of Donat and Yvonne (Savaria) Cote.

He is survived by his partner-in-life, Michael K. Howland of Brandon; and three brothers, Raoul, Eugene and Lawrence Cote.

A private graveside committal service and burial will take place at a later date in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Brandon.

Memorial gifts may be made in his memory to the Brandon Free Public Library, 2 Franklin St., Brandon, VT 05733.

WAYNE PAQUETTE

MIDDLEBURY — Wayne H. Paquette, 62, passed away at UVM Medical Center on Nov. 16, 2015, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born Oct. 26, 1953, in Middlebury, and grew up in Cornwall. He attended Cornwall elementary school and graduated from Middlebury Union High School in 1971. He worked at the Sears store in Middlebury for many years and later at the National Bank of Middlebury.

WARREN POTTER

BRANDON — Warren C. Potter of Brandon died at home on Nov. 9, 2015, with Rose by his side.

He was born Oct. 11, 1934, to Olive and Charles Potter of Ferrisburgh. He enjoyed country music, dancing and friends.

He is survived by Rose, Kenneth, Ann, Jessica, Patrick, Wendy and Cassie Clark, and by friends Bill and Karen Larrow.

He was predeceased by his parents, brothers and sisters.

Submitting an obituary

The Addison Independent publishes paid obituaries and free notices of passing. Paid obituaries cost 25-cents per word, and $10 per photo. The obituary will publish as it is submitted on the date of the family’s choosing.

For those who do not wish to purchase an obituary, the Addison Independent offers anyone with a local connection the opportunity to publish a notice of passing. These notices may be up to 100 words and are subject to editing by our news department.

Submissions must be received by 11 a.m. on Wednesday for publication in the Thursday paper and 11 a.m. on Friday for Monday’s paper.

Generally, obituaries follow this form:
TOWN — Name, age, of town, died on date, of cause of death. He/She was born on date in town, the son/daughter of father's name and mother's name, including maiden name in parentheses.

Then include a paragraph or two about where the person went to school and what they did for work; where they lived, who they married and when.

Add a sentence or two about what made the person special to family and friends, including hobbies, avocations or other telling details about their life.

He/She is survived by spouse's name; children named individually (and their spouses and towns of residence, if appropriate); siblings named individually; number of grandchildren, parents or other immediate family members.

He/She was predeceased by names of immediate family members.

A memorial service will be held (fill in details of date, time, and place, plus officiate if applicable) with interment at (place). Memorial contributions may be made to (name and complete address, if applicable).
