MIDDLEBURY —Middlebury’s Town Hall Theater (THT) last week was once again hosting a sizable audience.
But those assembled in THT’s sumptuous performance hall on Thursday were not taking in a play; they were learning about how to help returning soldiers and their families deal with the real-life drama of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and other war-inflicted mental health issues.
MIDDLEBURY — Having become so used to paring school budgets in recent years, UD-3 school board members got some unexpectedly good financial news last week with word that the district had ended fiscal year 2009 in the black to the tune of $512,189.
The Addison Central Supervisory Union (ACSU) Superintendent Lee Sease said the fund balance can be traced to two sources.
VERGENNES — When Vermont Commissioner of Education Armando Vilaseca visits Vergennes this week, he will discuss two issues the Vermont Board of Education has identified as critical — one in which local officials said Vergennes Union High School is already a statewide leader and another in which by March Vergennes-area schools may lead Vermont.
When Vermont Commissioner of Education Armando Vilaseca visits the Vergennes Union High School board of education next week he is expected to have two key items on his agenda: school board consolidation and “school transformation.” VUHS has been a statewide leader on both issues (see story Page 1) and is deserving of the attention Vilaseca’s visit brings to the school. But we also hope the commissioner will spend a few moments talking about what the state needs to do if we are truly going to compete in the global marketplace.
VERGENNES — In a match that offered positives for both sides, the visiting Mount Abraham Union High School boys’ soccer team edged host Vergennes on Saturday, 1-0, at the VUHS Homecoming.
The Eagles posted their third-straight shutout, improved to 3-1, and shrugged off an up-and-down first-half to assert themselves in the second half.
After the break, Mount Abe out-shot VUHS, 12-4 — part of an overall 18-8 edge — and scored when sophomore Grayson Webb took advantage of a moment of indecision by the VUHS defense.
