I suffer from a mild but chronic condition known casually as Foot in Mouth Disease. There is no cure.
The condition is most common among people like me who (a) talk a lot and (b) are incapable of thinking before speaking. I’m the one who will greet sickly coworkers by saying, “Wow, you look terrible.” My genuine concern goes unappreciated.
For years they sat in an old cedar chest, an odd coupling among a morass of ramshackle household furnishings and chachkas harvested from my late grandfather’s home when he died around seven years ago.
The first item was a leather-covered, wood-framed box, around 14 inches by 15 inches. The opening flap bears a large, white number “13,” with a few buckles and strap remnants at both ends.
hat’s going on in our nation’s big cities? Police are swooping in with full-on military tactics, including air support from helicopters in one city, riot gear, pepper spray, tear gas and automatic weapons to do what? Bust up non-violent groups of American citizens protesting the corporate greed that has decimated the nation’s middle class and enriched the rich? That hardly justifies a military-style assault.
Chico Martin, vice-chairman of the Bristol Planning Commission, was not only disrespectful to a citizen of Bristol, but very likely was in violation of the state’s open meetings law when he prevented long-time Bristol resident John ‘Slim’ Pickens from seeking a clarification on a pertinent topic facing the commission.
MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury officials are working with Central Vermont Public Service Corp. (CVPS) and Efficiency Vermont to replace around 470 light fixtures throughout town with a more energy-efficient variety that could save the community around $20,000 per year on its electricity bill.
VERGENNES — Vergennes police twice between Nov. 7 and 13 issued drug citations to passengers of vehicles stopped for speeding on West Main Street, while also citing the drivers for non-drug-related violations.
ADDISON COUNTY — Vermont State Police operating out of the New Haven barracks are investigating a number of recently reported burglaries at county hunting camps.
On the morning of Nov. 8, troopers received a report of a burglary at a hunting camp off Natural Turnpike Road in Ripton. The owner of the camp, Michael Lefebvre of Milton, told police that when he arrived at the camp that morning he found someone had forced their way into the camp, a tool shed, an RV trailer and a separate two-story garage.
MIDDLEBURY – Middlebury police cited Matthew L. Husk, 30, of Ferrisburgh on Nov. 11 for second-degree aggravated domestic assault, following an alleged incident at a Sugarwood Court residence. Police said Husk was lodged at the Addison County Sheriff’s Department lockup for lack of $5,000 bail.
