FERRISBURGH — The Ferrisburgh selectboard on Nov. 26 chose a manager of Charlotte’s Point Bay Marina to fill a vacancy on the board created by the October resignation of longtime selectman John DeVos Jr.
Steve Gutowski, 60, was the pick among a field of six candidates that selectboard Chairwoman Loretta Lawrence described as strong across the board.
“They all were great candidates, and each offered something valuable and different,” Lawrence said.
VERMONT — Vermont’s hunters will get one final chance for a deer this year during the muzzleloader deer season and the second part of the archery deer season. The two seasons run at the same time — Dec. 7-15.

ADDISON COUNTY — Three local high schools have combined forces for the first time to put on a joint chorus concert of a Vivaldi masterwork.
Choruses from Mount Abraham, Vergennes and Middlebury union high schools will stage the performance on Thursday at 7:00 at the VUHS gymnasium.
“It’s really neat to combine forces, like how Vergennes and Mount Abe share a football team,” Mount Abraham choir director Megan LaRose said.
SHOREHAM — The town of Shoreham welcomes a new town clerk this week.
Incumbent Clerk Amy Douglas decided to step down, effective Nov. 29, after approximately five years of service. The selectboard has appointed resident Julie Ortuno to take Douglas’ place until the Town Meeting Day elections next March.
Douglas said she has simply decided to retire.
“I really enjoyed it,” she said of the job. “I just decided that now was the time (to retire).”

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury College football quarterback McCallum Foote has been named one of 10 finalists for the 2013 Gagliardi Trophy given to the most outstanding football player in NCAA Division III by Jostens Inc. and the J-Club of Saint John’s University of Minnesota.
I have been following the paper’s coverage of the town hall project, and the associated conversations on the editorial page, with great interest, shifting to surprise, dismay, frustration and anger. I am still uncertain how I feel about the project itself, with too many vague details and unanswered questions to allow me to be a sufficiently informed voter.
