On long solo runs, the oddest thoughts pass through one’s mind. For example, on my last run I suddenly realized that the vast majority of my loop runs proceed in a clockwise direction. I have no idea why this is the case, but set out to rectify the situation with at least an occasional counterclockwise loop!
A couple of Saturdays ago, my friend Kay and I pulled up to a squat brick structure off of a bumpy dirt road, still unsure that we’d managed to find the Neshobe Sportsman Club.
As soon as we climbed out of the car, though, I knew we’d come to the right place: the dusty parking area smelled all kinds of delicious, like slow-cooked meat and buttery mashed potatoes.
On the Ball: Playoff seeds are out
OK, the Vermont Principals’ Association released field hockey and soccer pairings this afternoon, and there were few surprises. The VPA’s new in-season “Sports Rankings” – essentially division standings based on scores reported by coaches – proved to be pretty accurate. Teams ended up where they were projected to almost without exception.
On The Ball: Playoffs on tap
It seems like yesterday we were stifling in that 90-plus degree September heat wave, not bundling up and clutching cups of cocoa at football games.
But it’s true: Playoffs in high school boys’ and girls’ soccer and field hockey begin next week. The Vermont Principals’ Association will release playoff pairings sometime in the early afternoon on Monday for the eight Middlebury, Mount Abraham, Otter Valley and Vergennes soccer teams, all of whom compete in Division II; and the D-I MUHS field hockey and D-II OV and Mount Abe teams.
