BRISTOL — Selectboard members are considering an ordinance that would regulate the discharge of firearms in Bristol. The ordinance, if passed, would be a first of its kind in the town.

The local law, which the Bristol selectboard heard about at their June 26 meeting, would prohibit firing a gun “within a safety zone of 500 feet from another person’s/entity’s residence, building, place of business or camper in the town of Bristol.”

LINCOLN — Lincoln resident Mari Cordes on Thursday returned from a whirlwind, three-day trip to Washington, D.C., that included wading through bustling airports, bunking down at a hostel and getting arrested.

MIDDLEBURY — Two years ago, Kurt Broderson organized a local effort to participate in a remake of the “Raiders of the Lost Ark” film.

He’s now rallying the troops to act out some scenes from the 1980s hit “Back to the Future,” an effort that will also involve the search for a “holy grail.” Only in this case, it’s not the Ark of the Covenant, but rather a rare DeLorean sports car that serves as the vehicle for time travel in “Back to the Future.”

Salisbury art restorers are 'masters of disguise'

By Elsie Lynn Parini

Paintings age. Very slowly.

“Much like people do,” said Randy Smith, an art restorer in Salisbury who’s been in the biz since the early ’70s. “You don’t notice it day to day, but after it’s been a while the varnish yellows, there can be nicotine, smoke or mold stains; the paint can blister or crack; even fire sparks can burn small holes.”

That’s when you call Randy and his wife, Linda Hampton Smith, to help restore the piece to it’s original quality.

Proposed law migrant farmworkers.jpg

VERMONT — A key to finally getting federal law changed so immigrants can more easily work on Vermont’s dairy farms is getting farmers and farm advocates here to reach out to their counterparts in Republican-leaning states. That is the analysis of people familiar with the legislative process in Washington, D.C.

They were commenting on the future of the Agricultural Worker Program Act of 2017, bill S.1034 in the U.S. Senate and bill H.R.2690 in the U.S. House.
