Vergennes Police Log: Five minors cited for alcohol violation

VERGENNES — Vergennes police in two separate incidents this past weekend ticketed five minors for alcohol use and issued them court diversion paperwork, and in one also cited a 21-year-old motorist for driving under the influence of alcohol and providing alcohol to minors.

Bristol Police Log: Repeat felon charged with selling drugs

BRISTOL — On June 3, Bristol police arrested Bruce Cobb, 53, of Lincoln on charges of selling and dispensing of narcotics. Police had obtained information stating that Cobb was selling narcotics in downtown Bristol.

A press release from Chief Kevin Gibbs stated that police conducted several operations in Bristol where Cobb allegedly sold and dispensed narcotics in the presence of a police officer on several occasions.

Bristol elementary students create poetry in the park

BRISTOL — On Thursday, May 30, a beautiful spring day full of the promise of summer, Bristol Elementary School students were out on the town green celebrating their first annual Poetry in the Park Festival. Students from kindergarten through sixth grade spread tarps, blankets and quilts on the grass and listened as their schoolmates went up to the bandstand to read and recite poetry.

Midd Arts Walk returns on Friday

MIDDLEBURY — The 2013 Middlebury Arts Walk season continues with this summer’s second event taking place on Friday, June 14. This month will feature nearly 30 hosting venues displaying a diverse array of art — the majority of which has been created by Addison County residents. In addition to the Arts Walk, this may be one of the last opportunities to see and play any of the six vibrantly painted pianos around town, which celebrate Town Hall Theater’s fifth anniversary.

Former ag secretary to talk dairy history

MIDDLEBURY — In recognition of Dairy Month, Roger Allbee, former Vermont secretary of agriculture, will present a talk on the history of dairy in Vermont on Friday, June 14, at 6:30 p.m. at the Sheldon Museum in Middlebury. The talk is presented in conjunction with the Sheldon’s current exhibit “From Dairy to Doorstep,” a partnership with Historic New England. Admission is free but donations are welcome.

Chimney Point to offer new hands-on programs

ADDISON — At the Chimney Point State Historic Site in Addison, site interpreter Karl Crannell on Saturday, June 15, will offer the first of three hands-on monthly third Saturday programs, “Blast from the Past: How They Made It in New France.” The program runs between 1:30 and 3:30 p.m. June’s program looks at the French soldiers who served at the French fort at Chimney Point in the 1730s and their clothing.
