'Rockumentary' on 1960s revolution to screen in Lincoln on Wednesday

LINCOLN — Lincoln Library will screen the 2009 “rockumentary” film “Soundtrack For A Revolution” this Wednesday, Dec. 13, at 7 p.m.

This film tells the story of the 1960s civil rights movement through its powerful music — the freedom songs protesters sang on picket lines, in mass meetings, and in jail cells as they fought for justice and equality. In addition to the archival footage the film features new performances of the freedom songs by top artists and interviews with civil rights foot soldiers and leaders.

Mount Abe school board seeks public input through online survey

BRISTOL — The Mount Abraham Unified School District Board is interested in connecting with members of the five-town community.

The MAUSD Community Engagement Committee last week send out an email seeking input from residents of Bristol, Monkton, Lincoln, Starksboro and New Haven. They ask community members to go online to http://www.surveymonkey.com/r/WSYBVNM to provide feedback.

Learn about genealogy in a hands-on workshop at Bixby on Dec. 16

VERGENNES — As a part of the Bixby Memorial Library’s Coffeehouse Series and following the success of genealogist Ann Watson’s workshop in August, the Bixby and Watson are offering a hands-on instructional session in genealogy research this coming Saturday, Dec. 16, 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

Watson will be available to help participants work on their own family research, answer questions, and suggest resources. This will be a hands-on work session appropriate for beginners to experienced researchers. Bring your genealogy problems and questions

Mary's Restaurant to host free holiday meal Dec. 17

BRISTOL — Bristol’s Christmas Dinner and Festival has become an anticipated tradition in this community for over three decades. This year’s celebration — the 35th — is planned for Sunday, Dec. 17, at Mary’s at Baldwin Creek in Bristol.

The dinner and festivities start at 11:30 a.m. and continue until all are served. Mary’s at Baldwin Creek provides the bountiful meal and coordinates the event, from entertainment to home-deliveries and transportation. Many dozens of volunteers help at the event.

Nominate a Vermont Small Business of the Year

VERMONT — The Vermont District Office of the U.S. Small Business Administration is accepting nominations for its 2018 small business awards.

Previous Vermont winners include Ben and Jerry’s, Switchback Brewing Company and Mike Rainville of Middlebury’s Maple Landmark, who was 2017 Small Business Person of the Year.

Since 1963, the SBA has recognized the outstanding achievements of America’s small businesses for their contributions to their local communities, and to the nation’s economy. The award categories are:

Panther men's hoop nets big victory

SARATOGA SPRINGS — The Middlebury College men’s basketball team posted its biggest win of the winter so far on Friday, when the Panthers, ranked No. 2 in NCAA Division III, defeated host No. 16 Skidmore, 91-76.

The Panthers’ victory over the 6-1 Thoroughbreds was their first over a ranked team, and it allowed them to conclude first-semester play at 6-0. Middlebury will next play on Dec. 29 vs. York at the Washington & Lee tournament.

SCORES OF PEOPLE rallied in Triangle Park in downtown Middlebury on Saturday evening to kick off the fourth annual “Sleep Out” to benefit the John Graham Homeless Shelter. Statistics show that on any given night 100 people in Addison County are homeless. The Sleep Out raised more than $46,000 for programs helping homeless people in Addison County.
