Horse Traders to perform in Vergennes

This Saturday, catch Horse Traders as they rock the Vergennes Opera House stage. The Dec. 2 show is part of Hired Hand Brewing’s Opera House Music Series. Doors open at 7:30 p.m., show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $10.

The Horse Traders have five veteran performers with a wide and rollicking repertoire. Members include Deb Brisson on vocals, keyboards and percussion; Jon Rooney, vocals and guitar; Rick Marshall, guitar, mandolin and harmonica; Pete Ryan, bass, 12-string guitar and vocals; and John Wallace, drums.

Rupert Waites brings original folk back to Brandon stage

Folk singer-songwriter Rupert Wates returns to Brandon Music on Saturday, Dec. 2. He’ll be debuting material from his new CD, “The Lights Of Paris,” an album which showcases his original, acoustic, melodic art/folk with flavors of jazz and vaudeville.

Wates has been a professional songwriter since the late 1990s when he signed a publishing contract with Eaton Music Limited. Since then he’s won more than 30 songwriting awards.

Women's hoop nets two road victories

POTSDAM, N.Y. — The Middlebury College women’s basketball team won twice on the road recently to improve to 4- heading into the Panthers’ home opener vs. RPI, which was played on Wednesday after deadline for this paper.

The Panthers will play at Colby-Sawyer on Friday before hosting Plattsburgh on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.

On this past Sunday the Panthers outlasted host Clarkson, 53-49. The Golden Knights fell to 3-2.

Men's basketball tops Endicott, reaches 4-0

BEVERLY, Mass. — The Middlebury College men’s basketball team went on an 11-0 run to close the first half on the way to a 78-67 victory over host Endicott on Sunday.

The 4-0 Panthers, ranked No. 8 in NCAA Division III in the early going, return to action on Dec. 5 with a 7:30 p.m. home game vs. Plattsburgh. Endicott, which defeated the Panthers in Middlebury a year ago, dropped to 2-1.

Women's hockey falls to ranked teams in Plattsburgh

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. — The Middlebury College women’s hockey team dropped two games to top NCAA Division III competition in this past weekend’s Panther-Cardinal Classic, hosted by Plattsburgh State.

On Friday No. 3 Elmira defeated the No. 8 Panthers in the first round, 4-1, and on Saturday No. 4 Adrian edged the Panthers in overtime, 3-2.

Vermont State Police Log: Winter weather conditions might have caused several accidents

ADDISON COUNTY — The light snowfall may have contributed to a couple car crashes that Vermont State Police responded to this past Sunday morning.

First, on Nov. 26 at approximately 7 a.m., troopers at the New haven barracks were notified of a one-car crash on Tyler Bridge Road in Monkton. Police report that driver Viktoriia Tokarenko, 21, of Rochester, N.Y., attempted to slow down for a curve near Turkey Lane when the 2006 Honda Civic she was driving went off the roadway. Slippery road conditions were determined to play a factor in the collision.

Bristol Police Log: Man cited for not registering as sex offender

BRISTOL — On Nov. 14, Bristol police arrested Aaron Orbit Gould, 28, of Bristol and cited him for failing to register as a sex offender. Gould had moved from the address he’d listed with the Vermont Sex Offender Registry and had failed to notify the appropriate agencies in the required time.

Gould had been convicted of a separate Sex Offender Registry violation in September.

After arraignment on this latest charge, Gould was released on conditions imposed by the court.

Middlebury Police Log: Shire town police issue drunk-driving citation during busy week

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police cited Derek St. George, 22, of Jacksonville, N.C., for driving under the influence of alcohol following a traffic stop on Route 23 on Nov. 23.

Police said they measured his blood-alcohol content at 0.141 percent; the legal limit for driving is 0.08.

In other action last week, Middlebury police:

•  Located a student who had run away from the Patricia A. Hannaford Career Center on Nov. 20.

•  Served temporary restraining orders on two local men on Nov. 20.
