Bristol Police Log: One-man crime spree ends with arrest

BRISTOL — Bristol police recently dealt with what appears to be a one-man crime spree in Bristol village recently. On April 23 they investigated five reported vehicle burglaries that occurred in the areas of Pleasant Street, Elm Street and Taylor Avenue.

Vermont State Police Log: Man cut out of his truck after crash

ADDISON COUNTY — Vermont State Police closed Burpee Road in Bristol temporarily on the afternoon of May 2 due to a one-vehicle accident with injuries that occurred at approximately 2 p.m.

Roger Jacobs, 45, of Bristol told police he was headed north to the Burlington area for a medical appointment when he lost control of the red Ford pickup he was driving and it left the roadway. Police said their investigation suggests the truck flipped onto its side, slid along the ditch then re-entered the roadway.

Vergennes Police Log: Motor vehicle accidents keep police busy

VERGENNES — Vergennes police dealt with three Main Street motor vehicle accidents on Sunday, including one that sent the driver of a motorcycle to Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington for treatment.

That accident occurred at the intersection of Main Street with MacDonough Drive, and police said the motorcycle collided with a truck.

The other two accidents were more minor and involved only damage to vehicles. Three cars earlier in the day were involved in an accident at the intersection of Main and North Maple streets, and two cars collided on Main Street.

Middlebury Police Log: Thefts, drugs occupy Middlebury police

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police cited Fred J. Seavy, 49, of North Clarendon for felony possession of marijuana, after he was observed driving the wrong way on Court Square on May 3. Police requested and received a search warrant to check the vehicle. That search, according to police, yielded “several bags of marijuana,” packaging equipment and a scale.

In other action last week, Middlebury police:

•  Helped defuse a landlord-tenant dispute at a Quesnel Lane residence on April 29.

Middlebury College president explains pipeline support; pipeline opponents offer a rebuttal

Middlebury College President Ronald Liebowitz on Monday, May 6, sent a message to the college community explaining his institution’s position on Vermont Gas Systems’ proposal to build a natural gas pipeline through Addison County.

On Wednesday, a group of area residents and college students who want Middlebury College to rethink its position released a rebuttal to Leibowtiz.

Mount Abe wrapping up year with Fine Arts Festival

BRISTOL — The Addison Northeast Supervisory Union will be holding its 27th annual Fine Arts Festival at Mount Abraham Union High School from May 7-9. This event features the accomplishments of the students from the district in visual and performing arts. The results of a year of teaching and learning will be shared with the five-town community through displays and performances. The artwork of over 1,000 students from within the district will be displayed. All events are free and open to the public. The schedule is as follows:

Ferrisburgh News: School hosts film on obesity

FERRISBURGH — Ferrisburgh Central School, as part of its commitment to the continual improvement of the health and nutrition of the community, will host a screening of “Consequences,” part 1 of the four-part HBO documentary “The Weight of the Nation” on Monday, May 6, at 6:30 p.m. in the FCS gymnasium. The series features case studies and interviews with leading experts and with individuals and families struggling with obesity. It shows how obesity affects the nation and what individuals and communities can do.

This year the statewide event is being held May 13-17. Way to Go! promotes economical, environmentally friendly, safe alternatives to driving solo. Opera company offers fans a chance to meet the singers

MIDDLEBURY — The Opera Company of Middlebury, now in its 10th season, has become a popular stop for talented young opera singers on their way to great careers. But there’s another big attraction.

“When these singers come to Middlebury they immediately feel as if they’re part of the community,” says OCM artistic director Douglas Anderson. “They make a lot of friends in the area, which is unusual, and one reason for that is ‘Meet the Singers.’”

Saturday road race to raise funds for Lincoln school

LINCOLN — The third annual Lincoln Mountain Magic 5K/10K Run-Walk happens Saturday, May 11, at 9 a.m., starting at the Lincoln Community School. The courses run through gentle hills in Lincoln providing variety for all athletic levels, and this year cash prizes will be awarded to male/female winners of both races and male/female winners age 12 and under in the 5K. The race is sponsored by the Friends of Lincoln Community School with proceeds supporting educational and enrichment activities at the school.
