BRISTOL — The Mount Abraham-Vergennes cooperative boys’ lacrosse team on Monday earned its first win, 16-10, at home over stubborn Otter Valley, which repeatedly fought back from deficits in what was the Otters’ opener.

The Eagles evened their record at 1-1 after a disappointing 17-15 loss to visiting Montpelier on the previous Wednesday.

Andy Kirkaldy: Stats can help both athletes and observers

On Saturday I watched my younger daughter’s college lacrosse game. At one point she burst through a knot of four or five players battling for a ground ball (lax-speak for a loose ball) and tried to scoop it. Her first try to pick the ball up knocked it clear of the scrum.

But she was able to snag the ball cleanly on a second try, and then reverse field and sprint down the right sideline, back toward the opposing goal. Two opponents tried to pin her along the sideline, but she stopped, switched to her left hand, and tossed the ball to a teammate.

VERGENNES — A seven-home Planned Unit Development, known as a PUD, proposal for a Green Street parcel in Vergennes would be the first to make use of city zoning provisions for “density bonuses,” which would allow more homes on the lot than otherwise permitted.

RUTLAND — When Rutland’s Ben Davine scored back-to-back goals late in Friday’s third period against the visiting Middlebury Union High School boys’ lacrosse team, the Raiders had taken the lead for the first time, 8-7.

The Tigers led by as many as three, 6-3, at 4:44 of the second period, but Rutland seized the momentum with a 5-1 run over the next 13 minutes, thanks in part to Tiger turnovers.

FERRISBURGH — After about a year and a half of silence, financial talks might be ready to resume between the town of Ferrisburgh and the Massachusetts companies — Anbaric Transmission and National Grid — proposing a $650 million, 400-megawatt power line that in part would run underground along Ferrisburgh roads.

The companies, now doing business as Green Line Infrastructure Alliance, filed in October an application with the Vermont Public Service Board to run the 60-mile power line from Beekmantown, N.Y., to New Haven.
