ACSU delays action on Willey

Posted on February 22, 2010 |
By John Flowers

MIDDLEBURY — The Addison Central Supervisory Union (ACSU) board on Wednesday chose not to take action on Associate Superintendent Janice Willey’s letter of resignation and instead ordered a study of the working climate in the district office.

The ACSU board reached that decision after a lengthy executive session during which members discussed Willey’s letter, which she submitted this past Dec. 14. Willey had cited a sudden change in her duties — allegedly without her input — as the reason for her decision to step down this June after 14 years as associate superintendent.

Milfoil fight could cost towns more

Posted on February 18, 2010 |
By John Flowers

LEICESTER — Leicester and Salisbury voters on Town Meeting Day will be asked to substantially boost their financial commitment to removing Eurasian milfoil weeds from Lake Dunmore and Fern Lake.

Residents of both towns will be asked to earmark $7,225 toward milfoil eradication efforts in 2010, up from the $2,322 level the communities supported last year. The beefed-up financial requests come in the wake of reduced state funding for milfoil eradication, coupled with a recent spike in the spread of the nuisance aquatic weed in both lakes.

The local high school students later this week will be winging their way to Honduras, where they will help a struggling community that continues to rebuild its infrastructure a dozen years after being devastated by Hurricane Mitch.
