Middlebury readies for revote on town offices

Bridport woman helps parents carry on

BRIDPORT — Raising five young children takes patience, physical strength and some ingenuity.

Nancy Sunderland possesses all these qualities, and is using them to literally reduce the heavy lifting of child rearing for moms and dads. Along with business partner Jessica Young, Sunderland has formed the company Poe Wovens, which is making woven baby wraps to help parents comfortably and stylishly carry their infants or toddlers with less stress.

Middlebury sets meeting to discuss pipeline plan

MIDDLEBURY — The Middlebury selectboard this past Tuesday set an agenda for an April 29 public information meeting the town of Middlebury will be hosting about the Phase II Addison-Rutland Natural Gas Project.

That meeting will focus on the proposed construction of a natural gas pipeline from Middlebury through Cornwall and Shoreham and under Lake Champlain to the International Paper Co. in Ticonderoga, N.Y.

Vermont Gas prepares for Phase III of its pipeline through county

MIDDLEBURY — Vermont Gas officials are reaching out to Salisbury and Leicester officials to begin a public information campaign about its “Phase III” pipeline project that could deliver natural gas to Rutland County as soon as 2020.

Warming shelter caps sucessful first winter

MIDDLEBURY — Organizers of the warming shelter at Middlebury’s Memorial Baptist Church termed the facility’s first season a solid success, with service provided to 32 homeless people who received a combined total of more than 450 bed nights during what was one of the coldest Vermont winters in recent memory.

Town seeks grant for warming hut repairs

MIDDLEBURY — The Middlebury selectboard on Tuesday agreed to apply for up to $10,000 in state grant funding for improvements to the municipal “warming hut” off Buttolph Drive. The warming hut was once used as a changing facility by hockey athletes playing at the nearby Memorial Sports Center. But the sports center now has its own locker rooms, and the warming hut is being groomed as a gathering spot for Addison Central Teens, which currently meets in the municipal building basement.

Girl struck by car now at rehab facility

MIDDLEBURY — Charlotte LaFayette-McConnell, the two-and-a-half-year-old Middlebury girl who was seriously injured after being struck by an SUV on Weybridge Street on April 1, has now moved to a rehabilitation center in Boston to undergo what could be a lengthy period of therapy on her road to what physicians believe will be a full recovery.
