Vermont State Police Log: Raid leads to child porn charge for 80-year-old Lincoln man

ADDISON COUNTY — An 80-year-old Lincoln man on Tuesday pleaded innocent to a felony charge of possession of child pornography following a raid of his home by the Vermont State Police and other law enforcement agencies.

At around noon on Monday, Oct. 9, state police troopers along with Bristol police and an agent from Homeland Security Investigations executed a search warrant at a Lincoln residence. While searching a bedroom belonging to Donald H. Noble, authorities found a television left on with a movie playing, but paused.

Workout warriors

Four Addison County residents joined under the Team PatriWODic banner to finish third among 14 teams at the 2017 Vermonster CrossFit Competition, held in Barre on Sept. 23. The team, pictured on the right above, consisted of (left to right) Steven Beckwith, Liz Sabourin, Alicia Prime and Ryan Francoeur. The competition consisted of four different team events, one that required the quartets to pull a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck up an incline. Click below to see a video of the truck pull.

Is hemp Vermont's next big crop? Middlebury farm plants marijuana cousin

MIDDLEBURY — While lawmakers in Montpelier argue over marijuana legalization, Middlebury dairy farmers Joel Pomainville and Sam Berthiaume are readying harvest of a cousin of marijuana — hemp — that promoters hope could be a new cash crop for Vermont farmers.

“The potential is so huge on this stuff,” said Berthiaume.

Secretary of Agriculture Anson Tebbetts, who toured Pomainville and Berthiaume’s 13 acres of hemp on Monday morning, said hemp could be a supplement crop for Vermont’s dairy farmers, like maple syrup.

WomenSafe seeking new digs; nonprofit working on fundraising drive to expand offerings

Madaila kicks off local United Way's 50th year this Saturday

Turning 50 deserves a celebration — a big one.

After all, that’s 18,250 days, or 438,000 hours, or if you count every minute: 26,280,000 minutes. It’s an accomplishment.

Not only has United Way of Addison County reached the big 5-0 this year, they have spent the last half century (all 26.2 million minutes) serving programs that enrich the lives of people who live and work in Addison County.

Vermont State Police Log: Police alerted to impaired driver

ADDISON COUNTY — On Sunday, Oct. 1, officers from the Middlebury Police Department and Vermont State Police were told to be on the lookout for a vehicle that was reported to have an intoxicated or impaired driver on Route 7 driving northward from Brandon.

At approximately 6 p.m. police located the vehicle on Route 116 in Middlebury, near the intersection of Case Street and East Main Street, where they stopped it.

Addison Central schools need work; report puts price tag at $31 million over next five years

MIDDLEBURY — The Addison Central School District’s 12 buildings spread throughout seven Middlebury-area communities could require a combined total of as much as $31 million in upgrades and repairs within the next five years, according to a new report commissioned by ACSD officials.
