BRISTOL — Had he been just a little bit shorter, longtime Bristol Police Chief Kevin Gibbs might have become an Air Force pilot, but at 6-foot-4 he was too tall to fit in the cockpit by Air Force specs.

Instead his desire to serve his community and — he frankly admits — a love of the adrenalin that comes from being the calm authority figure in an emergency led to 38 years as a policeman, 31 of those with the Bristol Police Department.

Gibbs joined the Bristol police in 1986, and became chief in 1992.

Posted on August 10, 2017 |
By Will DiGravio

BRISTOL — Members of the Bristol selectboard unanimously rejected a proposed gun ordinance at their meeting this past Monday, agreeing that the proposal would do nothing to prevent irresponsible gun ownership and may create more of a liability for the town.

“Throw it out. It’s completely unnecessary,” Selectman Ted Lylis said at the meeting, attended by about a dozen people. “It has just resulted in an extremely divisive situation. I don’t see the need for it.”

Bristol 10 x12.jpg

Deborah Holmes is no stranger to Addison County. If you weren’t her neighbor in Weybridge or Shoreham, you might still know her from her watercolor paintings. Holmes has been painting the Vermont scene for the past 25 years.

Last Thursday, she turned the key in her new home on Garfield Street in Bristol. Now, most of us would probably take the next week or so to settle in, unpack a few boxes, put the kitchen together, see what’s volunteering out in the gardens. But that’s not what Holmes did.

She set up an exhibit at Art on Main.
