Middlebury Police Log: Police looking into sex crime allegations

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police launched investigations into two alleged sex crimes reported in the community last week.

On May 1, Vermont Adult Protective Services and Middlebury police began looking into a potential sexual assault following an initial interview of an alleged victim at Porter Medical Center.

Then, on May 3, police were tipped off about a “possible child sexual abuse” case involving a local family.

Vergennes Police Log: City police investigate robbery

VERGENNES — In addition to beginning the investigation that led to the arrest of the suspect in the May 1 armed robbery of Small City Market and two southern Vermont businesses (click here to see story), Vergennes police between April 30 and May 6 handled a variety of incidents, including processing a drunk-driving case, helping people who were reported to be feeling suicidal, and dealing with alleged threatening behavior.

Vermont State Police Log: Driver cited for possession of cocaine

ADDISON COUNTY — On Monday, April 30, at around 7 p.m. Vermont State Police were conducting what they called a “routine patrol” on Route 66 in Waltham when a trooper saw a vehicle pass them and recognized the driver as Bryon Tinker, whose license the trooper knew was suspended. The officer also witnessed a motor vehicle violation, so he stopped Tinker, 41, of Jericho.

Bristol Police Log: Bristol woman cited for assault

BRISTOL — On Thursday, April 26, Bristol police arrested town resident Crystal King, 30, and cited her for simple assault and providing false information to law enforcement.

At 8:30 p.m., a North Street resident called the police to say they had locked themselves in a room because they were afraid of another subject in the residence. Assisted by Vermont State Police, Bristol police investigated and determined that King had assaulted a juvenile female guest of the caller. Police located the juvenile at her residence and documented her injuries.

Middlebury Police Log: Local woman cited for assault

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police cited Amanda T. Smith, 31, of Middlebury for assault, after she allegedly assaulted a man on an Addison County Transit Resources bus traveling in the downtown area on April 27.

In other action last week, Middlebury police:

•  Helped a man who was experiencing a mental health episode on East Main Street on April 23. Police said the man was taken to Porter Hospital.

Vergennes Police Log: Student cited for unwanted touching of another student

VERGENNES — Vergennes police on April 23 cited a male Northlands Job Corps student for alleged unwanted touching of another male Northlands student, an incident they said occurred on April 14.

City police responded to the Job Corps Center on April 23 after receiving the report of the earlier incident, and after an investigation cited Jarred McKinney, 23, of Brooklyn, N.Y., for allegedly performing a prohibited act.

Vermont State Police Log: Detectives cite city man for sexual assault of juvenile

ADDISON COUNTY — On April 19, Vermont State Police Det. Trooper Patrick Slaney cited Thomas Hall, 45, of Vergennes for three counts of sexual assault based on incidents reported earlier this year.

State police detectives assigned to the Bureau of Criminal Investigations on Feb. 13 were notified of a sexual assault complaint in Ferrisburgh. During the course of investigation, which included a number of interviews, police report that they learned Hall on three occasions sexually assaulted a juvenile.

Bristol Police Log: Dept. assists in Middlebury massage voyeurism case

BRISTOL — On April 10 Bristol police assisted Middlebury police by conducting a preliminary forensic search of electronic devices belonging to Roger Schmidt, a Middlebury masseur accused of voyeurism.

An evaluation of the evidence by Bristol officers yielded 70 digital images and videos that appear to have been taken without the consent or knowledge of the customers involved, according to an affidavit filed in Addison Superior Court.

Middlebury Police Log: Man cited after driving off a road

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police cited Matthew Ceda, 26, of Middlebury for driving while intoxicated on Valley View Drive, after an officer allegedly saw him drive off Seminary Street Extension three times on April 17.

Police said Ceda refused to submit to a breath test.

Vergennes Police Log: Addison man cited for drunk driving

VERGENNES — Vergennes police cited Erik A. Brands, 28, of Addison for driving under the influence, following a stop for speeding on West Main Street on April 17.

Police said they measured Brands’ blood-alcohol content at 0.126 percent; the legal limit for driving is 0.08.
