Middlebury Police Log: Police seek info on Main Street assault

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police responded to the reported assault of a 19-year-old man while he was walking a dog on Main Street on Dec. 28 at around 8:30 p.m. Police said two men allegedly pushed the victim from behind, causing him to fall. The men then allegedly punched and kicked the victim, dislocating his right shoulder, according to police. The victim was treated at Porter Hospital.

Vermont State Police Log: DNA leads police to Salisbury man

ADDISON COUNTY — Vermont State Police on Jan. 2 cited Justin R. Schroeder, 30, of Salisbury for burglary of a recreational vehicle parked off Woodpecker Lane at Kampersville in Salisbury last May 20. The arrest came after months of investigation in a case that police said was sealed by DNA evidence found at the crime scene.

As reported by the victims last May, the break-in at the R.V., which served as a seasonal residence, caused approximately $3,035 in damages. Personal property was also stolen from the seasonal home.

Vermont State Police Log: Tailgater cited for drug offenses

ADDISON COUNTY — On Dec. 21 at approximately 7:30 a.m. Vermont State Police Trooper Andrew Leise stopped a 1995 Jeep Cherokee traveling southbound on Route 7 in New Haven after he saw it being driven approximately one vehicle length behind a vehicle directly in front of it at speeds between 58-60 miles per hour.

During the stop, VSP K9 “Argus” sniffed around the car and alerted on it, indicating to police that illegal drugs were present.

Vergennes Police Log: Field a range of issues

VERGENNES — Vergennes police dealt with mostly routine issues between Dec. 19 and 25, including one domestic dispute, an ongoing barking dog problem, violations of the city’s winter parking ban, and motorists in need of a helping hand.

In that seven-day span, Vergennes police:

•  On Dec. 19 checked out a report of erratic driving on Panton Road, but found no one.

Vergennes Police Log: Driver cited after hitting woman

VERGENNES — Vergennes police issued two citations to the driver of a car that struck a woman on Main Street on Dec. 12, hospitalizing her. Police said the woman was taken to Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington and is recovering from surgery to repair a broken leg.

Cited was Jennifer Goodspeed, 28, of Vergennes, for gross negligent operation of a motor vehicle and for failure to maintain liability insurance.

Middlebury Police Log: Police investigate Agway theft

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police investigated the reported theft of some clothing from Agway on Exchange Street on Dec. 18. Police said a couple allegedly filled a plastic tote bag with clothes and left the store through a side door. Store officials will soon provide police with in-house video of the man and woman, who are believed to have attempted the same type of theft from Agway on a previous occasion. Store officials are also tallying the value of the stolen clothes.

Vermont State Police Log: Domestic assault call ends with citations

ADDISON COUNTY — On Thursday, Dec. 15, at about 9:25 p.m. Vermont State Police responded to a domestic disturbance call off Route 22A in Bridport. While the troopers were en route, the male subject, identified as Kevin Comes, 38, of Bridport, departed in a vehicle.

The 33-year-old female victim reported that Comes had attempted to get a gun and threatened to kill her and himself. She also said Comes was intoxicated.

Vermont State Police Log: False information draws charges

ADDISON COUNTY — While patrolling Morgan Horse Farm Road in Weybridge on the evening of Thursday, Dec. 8, Vermont State Police Trooper Tim Hanley checked on a vehicle parked in a pull off next to the bridge over Otter Creek.

The trooper said the driver, Jamie C. Martin, 30, of Castleton, falsely identified himself as a Massachusetts man. Martin’s privilege to drive in Vermont is suspended.

Middlebury Police Log: Police probe local business embezzlement

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police began investigating embezzlement allegations filed by Paquette Storage on Route 7 North on Dec. 7. Police said the embezzlement allegedly occurred between May of 2008 and May of 2011.

In other action last week, Middlebury police:

  Received a report that $72 had been stolen from a student’s backpack at Middlebury College’s McCullough Hall on Dec. 5.

Vergennes Police Log: Man cited for violating conditions

VERGENNES — Vergennes police arrested a city man late on Dec. 5 for violating his conditions of release, an action taken after they spotted him acting suspiciously, near the intersection of Main and South Water streets.
