By Andy Kirkaldy

FERRISBURGH — Ferrisburgh homeowners will be getting a financial break on their taxes. According to school property tax numbers released by the Vermont Department of Taxes late last week, Ferrisburgh’s 2017-2018 homestead rate is 13.92 cents lower than this past year’s.

For the owners of a $300,000 home in Ferrisburgh who pay based on its assessed value and not on their income, that decrease means a school tax bill that will be $417.60 lower.

FERRISBURGH — The Ferrisburgh selectboard last week at its second public hearing on a proposed new town plan heard debate on what is apparently the final issue holding up its adoption — a proposed mapping change that would move a couple of properties along Route 7 from a Highway Commercial District to a less permissive Conservation zone.

Route 7 rebuild project draws mixed reviews

Posted on June 29, 2017 |
By GAIL CALLAHAN of VTDigger.org

FERRISBURGH/CHARLOTTE — Halfway through a two-year project to rebuild Route 7 in Ferrisburgh and Charlotte, local reaction is mixed, with some supporting the project and others complaining of property damage and increased traffic on the back roads as commuters avoid the construction zone.

The stretch of Route 7 has something of a split personality: a scenic rural road through stunning landscapes, and a suburban commuter pipeline carrying 14,000 cars a day through Charlotte.

FERRISBURGH — After a June 20 closed-door meeting with the Ferrisburgh selectboard, town attorney Jim Carroll told about 20 residents that he would be working to reach a settlement with the Vorsteveld Farm for cutting down about 1,900 trees and shrubs in the town right of way this spring along a three-quarter-mile stretch of Arnold Bay Road.

But Carroll added that a court case remains possible based on the statute that requires landowners to obtain permission before cutting trees in town rights of way.

Posted on June 8, 2017 |
By Andy Kirkaldy

FERRISBURGH — Farmers Hans and Gerard Vorsteveld told the Ferrisburgh selectboard on Tuesday they have started removing stumps from along Arnold Bay Road, but that poor weather has slowed their efforts to clean up. In early April they cut down about 2,000 trees and shrubs, illegally according to Ferrisburgh officials because they were in the town right of way.
