LINCOLN — As we gear up for Green Up Day on Saturday, May 5, here are a few tips for volunteers: Tires from home will not be accepted. Please put returnable cans/bottles in their own bag separate from trash and recyclables. Children should be accompanied by an adult. Wear sturdy, comfortable shoes and bring gloves, sunscreen, hat and water. Wear long pants, avoid tall grass and check for ticks. Most importantly, do not pick up any hazardous materials.

Lincoln news for April 30

LINCOLN — Spring is here and that means Green Up Day is right around the corner. This year it will be held on Saturday, May 5, from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Lincoln Fire House. Stop by between 8 and 11 a.m. to pick up bags and gloves and get your road assignment. From 11 a.m.-1 p.m. bring your filled bags back to the fire house and receive one raffle ticket per bag dropped off.

Bluegrass quartet plays the Burnham Music Series

Four veteran Vermont musicians joined together as Northern Flyer — a contemporary bluegrass band — in 2017. They combine first-rate harmonies with extensive instrumental expertise. Their repertoire includes original songs, unique adaptations of exciting material and traditional bluegrass. And they’re coming to Burnham Hall in Lincoln on Saturday, April 14, or the Burnham Music Series.

Together Andy Sacher (mandolin), Mark Struhsacker (guitar), Andy Greene (banjo) and Kirk Lord (bass) make up this bluegrass quartet you won’t want to miss on Saturday.

LINCOLN — Calling all Green Up Day volunteers: Green Up Day will be held on Saturday, May 5, from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Lincoln Fire Station. Green Up Day is a statewide event that brings together community volunteers of all ages to help cleanup Lincoln’s roads. This family-friendly event is a great way to get involved in our community. By working together with our friends and neighbors, we can help keep Lincoln beautiful.

Rummage sale planned in Lincoln

LINCOLN — The Ladies Aid Industria in Lincoln will hold its annual rummage sale at Burnham Hall in Lincoln on the first weekend in May.

The public is invited to bring clean clothing and household items for the rummage sale to Burnham Hall from 1-7 p.m. on May 2. No electronics or bike helmets, please.

The sale will be held in the same space on Friday, May 4, 8 a.m.-6  p.m., and on Saturday, May 5, 8 a.m.-noon. On Saturday goods will be sold for $2 per bag.

State police probe thefts of sugaring equipment

BRISTOL — Vermont State Police said they’ve identified suspects in connection with thefts and vandalism targeting multiple sugarworks in Bristol, Lincoln, Cornwall and other Addison County locations during the past three weeks.

Trooper Brett Flansburg on Tuesday confirmed the list of victims includes Mayer Maple Products off Route 116 in Bristol, as well as smaller, residential sugaring operations.

Flansburg said he was aware of five sugarworks cases currently under investigation by officials at the VSP’s New Haven barracks.

Mari Cordes confirms second bid for Addison-4 House seat

LINCOLN — Mari Cordes is hoping in November to reverse the order of results in her last race for Addison-4’s two seats in the Vermont House. In that 2016 election, the Lincoln Democrat finished a close fourth among the four candidates competing for the right to represent Bristol, Lincoln, Monkton and Starksboro.

It was Cordes’ first House run, and she’s using it as a learning experience to make her a more successful candidate this time around.

Sharpe reflects on his lengthy career in the Vermont house

BRISTOL — Saturday, March 3, saw scores of Starksboro residents assemble at their local elementary school for their annual town meeting.

Among the guests were Rep. Dave Sharpe, Rep. Fred Baser and Sen. Chris Bray. One after the other, they went up to the microphone to deliver their reports on goings-on in Montpelier.

Sharpe, the last of the lawmakers to speak, delivered some news that caught everyone by surprise:

“I won’t be seeking re-election.”

Even Sharpe’s legislative colleagues were caught unaware.
