Solar Sweet Maple Farm taps into sap

LINCOLN — Solar Sweet Maple Farm sits atop a hill on a dirt road in South Lincoln, up past fields with spectacular mountain views and evenly placed colonial homes. Inside the farm’s red-trimmed, solar-panel-topped sugarhouse, the air smells like sweet maple syrup and freshly cut wood.

Quarter-million-dollar playground upgrade planned in Lincoln

LINCOLN — Seven years ago a group of Lincoln Community School parents got together to raise funds to buy new playground equipment.

“I had at the time a second-grader, a kindergartener and a new born. And the play structure at the school was 25 years old, out of date, out of code. It needed to be replaced,” said Mary Beth Stilwell, a Lincoln parent and school board member.

Stillwell started that first playground committee with the idea of “just replacing the play structure.”

Mt. Abe's Ober to vie in state poetry competition

BRISTOL — Mount Abraham Union High School junior Casey Ober will be competing this Thursday, March 16, as one of 10 finalists in the state Poetry Out Loud competition.

“Casey has been enthusiastically participating in Poetry Out Loud for three years, so I was really excited to see her go on to the semifinals and then just overjoyed and proud that she’s going on to states,” said Colleen Kiley, English teacher and Poetry Out Loud advisor at Mount Abe.

Willowell benefit to feature Avant-Garde Dogs and Band of the Land

LINCOLN — At Monday night’s annual meeting, Lincoln voters approved the Lincoln Community School budget from the floor for the last time.

The 2017-2018 LCS budget is $2,101,791. Next year all Addison Northeast Supervisory Union elementary school budgets will be voted on by Australian ballot as part of a single Addison Northeast Supervisory District budget. The unified ANESD will commence full educational and operational services on July 1, 2018.

LINCOLN — Lincoln residents will assemble in Burnham Hall on Monday, March 6, at 6 p.m. for the annual town meeting.

Articles to be voted on the floor include $1,360,885 in town spending and $2,101,791 in spending for Lincoln Community School.

The Lincoln selectboard is asking voters to approve Highway Fund expenditures of $1,023,935, a 4.65 percent increase ($45,490) over last year’s budget of $978,445.

Lincoln to decide two contests on Town Meeting Day

LINCOLN — When they come to Burnham Hall on Town Meeting Day, March 7, Lincoln residents will see familiar faces running unopposed for town clerk, town treasurer and selectboard.

But when it comes to the town moderator and second constable positions, voters will need to make a choice.

Alan Kamman is challenging Will Sipsey in a race for town and school meeting moderator. Matthew Collins is again challenging Mark Truax in a race for second constable.

UVM honors Lincoln resident as first Levitt Family Professor

BURLINGTON/LINCOLN — Katharine Shepherd, Ed.D., a professor and interim associate dean in the College of Education and Social Services (CESS) at the University of Vermont, was endowed in a formal investiture ceremony on Feb. 7 as the inaugural Levitt Family Green and Gold Professor. Shepherd is a Lincoln resident.
