Middlebury to consider hosting Vermont Green Line

MIDDLEBURY — The Middlebury selectboard on Tuesday unanimously agreed to explore a potential agreement with the developers of a proposed high-voltage converter station that would facilitate the flow of renewable energy from upstate New York into the New England power grid.

Porter’s new interim CEO Fred Kniffin, MD, is known by his colleages to possess both qualities, as well as someone who has experience as a doctor and in the hospital administration as chief medical officer.

Middlebury police investigate Monroe Street stabbing

MIDDLEBURY — Local police in Middlebury are investigating a stabbing incident at a Monroe Street home early Tuesday morning. Their preliminary investigation suggested that the stab wounds were self-inflicted.

Middlebury police were called to the residence at 6:45 a.m. on March 22. Upon arrival, they found a male in the home with several stab wounds in the abdomen. Middlebury Regional EMS took the male to Porter Hospital, and he was subsequently transported to UVM Medical Center in Burlington for further treatment, police said.

MIDDLEBURY — Almost 50 Middlebury residents on Monday gathered to look at and make suggestions on preliminary plans for a park to be created later this year by Middlebury College on the site of the town’s soon-to-be-demolished former municipal building and gym.

Habitat for Humanity dedicates its newest home

MIDDLEBURY — Habitat for Humanity of Addison County celebrated the completion of its eighth home at a dedication ceremony on Saturday, Feb. 13. The cold weather was no match for the warmth inside as new homeowner Karen Holbrook, together with her three children, thanked all those who worked so hard to help her reach this goal. Attending the event were many friends and family members, as well as Habitat volunteer builders and board members.

Beauchemin wins speech competition

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury College Advancement hosted the Vermont American Legion Oratorical Speech Finals on Saturday, Mar. 5. Representing District 1 was Alyse Beauchemin, a junior at Vergennes Union High School; District 4, Charlie Cacciatore, a senior at Fair Haven Union High School; and District 5, Mateo Ellerson of Hartford High School. The students had reached this level by first competing at their sponsoring American Legion post and winning their respective district competitions to earn a place in the March 5 finals.

Porter Medical Center CEO resigns after doctors pass 'no-confidence' vote

MIDDLEBURY — After nine months on the job, Porter Medical Center Board President and CEO Lynn Boggs resigned on Friday afternoon, following a notice to the Porter Medical Center board and administration that the Medical Staff had met Tuesday night and had issued a vote of “no-confidence” in Boggs.

Upon receiving the medical staff’s announcement on Friday morning and Boggs’ resignation later that day, the board appointed Dr. Fred Kniffin to serve as acting president and CEO.
