Pop up Shoot 014.jpg

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury’s Town Hall Theater has built a great reputation for staging an eclectic mix of plays and musicals using an array of talented actors to bring the subject matter to life.

One thread has run through many of the productions: The presence of men in the most dominant roles.

It’s not that THT brass have intentionally selected plays that celebrate male characters and/or themes; it’s just that a majority of the classics — from “Macbeth” to “Sweeney Todd” — have masculine protagonists.

MIDDLEBURY — It’s an experience we all know well: listening to a song and being instantly transported back in time to the first place we heard it.

Well, mentally, at least.

For Middlebury writer Jeremy Holt, the concept of music as time travel was powerful enough for him to make it literal through fiction. Melissa Platt Photo Cred- Annick Marion .jpg

This Saturday evening, Notte (downstairs Two Brothers in Middlebury) welcomes Melissa Plett and her folk music. Originally from a farm-yard in Manitoba, this truck-driver's daughter has journeyed her way through thick and thin, chiseling and shaping her sound to what it is today. Plett’s influences come from the down-south storytelling of Johnny Cash, the tell-all nature of Kitty Wells, and the heart-wrenching tales of hardship from Etta James and Ray Charles.
