Historic Middlebury home renovated with energy efficiencies

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury residents and those driving north on Route 7 have been watching the yearlong renovation of 29 North Pleasant St., a yellow house just north of Charter House and the Middlebury Inn dating back to 1901. The building was vacant for several years, in part because it was very energy inefficient.

Local elementary students to perform 'King Lear' at THT

MIDDLEBURY — At the second annual production of the Town Hall Theater’s “Shakespeare: It’s Elementary” program 110 students will perform “King Lear.” Performances are on Thursday, March 14, at 6 and 7:30 p.m.

Students from three fifth-grade classes at Mary Hogan Elementary and one class each at Leicester Central and Shoreham Elementary have worked for 10 weeks on all elements of text and performance, including reading comprehension, stage fighting and scene craft, among others.

Health commissioner uges viewing of film on obesity epidemic

MIDDLEBURY — Health Commissioner Harry Chen, MD, is encouraging Addison County residents to watch and discuss a free screening of the HBO documentary film “Challenges” to better understand the nation’s obesity epidemic and inspire Vermonters to take action.

The film is part of the HBO series “Weight of the Nation” and highlights barriers to accessing healthy food and physical fitness. The movie will be screened and discussed on Tuesday, March 19, at 5:30 p.m. at the Middlebury Volunteer Ambulance Association Conference Room.

MIDDLEBURY — Chris Hanfield, a Vergennes resident who is a salesman at Foster Motors in Middlebury, knows a thing or two about getting people into the right automobile for them. He’s been moving cars and trucks off the lot for four years.

Middlebury selectmen re-elected

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury residents at their town meeting returned three of their incumbent selectmen to office and voted in favor of all the money requests on their ballot.

Incumbents Nick Artim, Gary Baker and Travis Forbes each won another three-year term on the board. Artim garnered the most votes with 437, followed by Baker with 434 and Forbes with 364. Finishing out of the running were challengers Ted Davis with 321 tallies and Eric Murray, who logged 224 votes.

Reality TV show featuring G-Stone Motors to premier Tuesday

MIDDLEBURY — The Stone family’s tradition of taking virtually anything in trade for vehicles at their G-Stone Motors dealership in Middlebury will be on full display to the nation through the new reality television show, aptly named “Family Trade,” that will premier this Tuesday, March 12, at 8 p.m. on GSN (formerly known as Game Show Network).

After 32 years of town planning, Dunnington plans to retire

MIDDLEBURY — After serving more than three decades as Middlebury’s town planner, Fred Dunnington will literally sail into retirement come July 1.

Dunnington, 59, and his longtime partner, Dorothy Mammen plan to set sail this summer for adventures on the high seas — though they promised that Middlebury will remain their home port.

Kramer joins Langrock, Sperry

MIDDLEBURY/BURLINGTON — Katherine “Katie” B. Kramer has joined Langrock Sperry & Wool LLP as an associate, working primarily on litigation matters.

Prior to joining the firm, Kramer clerked for Chief Judge Christina Reiss of the U.S. District Court for the District of Vermont, and for the Honorable Andrew Guilford of the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California. In addition, she practiced for two years at a large New York law firm where she focused on commercial litigation, and received the firm’s Pro Bono Distinction award.
