NEW HAVEN — As a very young child in New Haven, Julie Frost showed she had a great sense of rhythm and was drawn to music, recalled her mother, Jean Stilley.

“She loved to be part of family sing-alongs,” Stilley said.

Stilley and Frost’s father, Ted Wesley, gave Julie a guitar at age six, which she took to. She also learned a little piano and played the clarinet in the marching band at Mount Abraham Union High School.

NEW HAVEN — The rapturous sounds of children bicycling carried across the leaf-scattered fields outside New Haven’s Beeman Elementary School last week, where students took advantage of 46 free bikes provided by Local Motion — the Burlington-based nonprofit promoting people-powered transportation — as part of its new Bike Smart Loaner Program.

For some students, it was a fun and insightful week of class with wellness teacher Patty Whittemore, but for others it was groundbreaking.

Farmers offer Rep. Welch an earful on federal price support

Posted on August 18, 2011 |
By Michelle Monroe (St. Albans Messenger) and Andrea Suozzo

ST. ALBANS/NEW HAVEN — Farmers had plenty of suggestions for Rep. Peter Welch, D-Vt., as he solicited feedback about a proposed federal dairy reform bill in St. Albans last Wednesday and at Addison County Fair and Field Days in New Haven on Friday.
