MIDDLEBURY —The Acorn Renewable Energy Co-op of Middlebury has signed a joint development agreement with Encore Redevelopment LLC of Burlington to collaborate on the development of local solar projects in Addison County.

ACORN encourages student food projects

ADDISON COUNTY — Feeding students local food is all well and good, but how can they be encouraged to participate in food and agriculture efforts outside of the cafeteria?

For the Addison County Relocalization Network, the answer is the new Farm to School Entrepreneur Awards, which this year will honor students working on food-related projects. ACORN AmeriCorps staffer Hannah Mueller, who is coordinating the awards, hopes to see projects boosting everything from agriculture and farming to nutrition and food awareness efforts within schools.

Local food producers, buyers meet, talk shop

MIDDLEBURY — On Monday afternoon, the booths in a back room in Proctor Dining Hall at Middlebury College were filled with couples pairing off, chatting, and switching tables.

It looked like speed dating, but the couples included Shaw’s Supermarket managers with local pesto makers, and small food producers with area school foodservice coordinators. The nearly 30 people gathered in the small room were participating in the Addison County Relocalization Network’s second Matchmaker event.

NEW HAVEN — The crowd that packed the space at the Lincoln Peak Vineyard building in New Haven last Thursday night, sipping on wine and nibbling local appetizers, could have been attending a party.

But the event that drew nearly 100 people, including a number of prominent figures in county farming and agriculture, was the annual meeting of the Addison County Relocalization Network, known locally as ACORN.
