STARKSBORO — Starksboro author Ellen Michaud’s new book, “Blessed: Living a Grateful Life,” has Addison County written all over it. Dripping with vibrant imagery and drawing from a wide range of local examples, “Blessed” is a call for women to rest their minds, open up their hearts, listen and realize the beautiful flow of spiritual light that runs throughout themselves and the world.

MIDDLEBURY — When Jennifer Wagner auditioned for a role in “The King and I” with the Middlebury Community Players, she never expected to find that the musical about a British woman in 19th century Siam had local historical connections.

But a chance trip to Manchester earlier in April brought the play, which on Thursday begins a two-week run at Town Hall Theater, a little closer to home. In Manchester, she stumbled upon the tombstones of Shoreham natives Asa and Lucia Hemenway, who served as missionaries to Siam (now Thailand) between 1839 and 1850.

MIDDLEBURY — Seven years ago, New York freelance writer Kristin Kimball would never have imagined herself running a horse-powered subsistence farming operation and Community Supported Agriculture operation in northern New York state.

But at Middlebury’s Town Hall Theater last week, Kimball launched the paperback version of her book “The Dirty Life: A Memoir of Farming, Food and Love,” which catalogs her transition from a world-traveling freelance writer to the co-owner of Essex Farm, just across Lake Champlain in Essex, N.Y.
