Group sharpens plan for development head

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury selectmen on Monday received an update on an ad hoc committee’s effort to define a proposed new town position of “director of business development.”

The person holding that post — which would need approval from town voters as soon as next March — would be charged with creating, recruiting and retaining high-quality jobs in Middlebury.

Middlebury seeks new marketing coordinator

MIDDLEBURY — The Better Middlebury Partnership (BMP) is again in the market for a new marketing coordinator in wake of the resignation of John Purcell, who held the newly created job for less than a month.

“It wasn’t a good fit,” Purcell said of the position, through which he was charged with promoting Middlebury as a shopping destination as well as coordinating some of the BMP’s signature annual events, such as the Chili Fest and Midd Summer Fest.

Midd Summer Festival draws 1,700

MIDDLEBURY — Whether it was the promise of warm and sunny weather, live music or ample wine, beer and cheese samples, people turned out in downtown Middlebury in droves on Saturday to attend the inaugural Midd Summer Festival.

According to event organizers, the celebration of Vermont products was a smashing success.

MIDDLEBURY — As summer winds on, the buzz continues to grow around the Midd Summer Festival, scheduled for Aug. 6 in the Marble Works in Middlebury.

Organizers say more than 40 Vermont beer, wine, cider, cheese and producers of other goods have signed on for the festival, which will take place from 3 to 7 p.m., rain or shine, and will feature live music.

More than 3,000 dig in at Middlebury's chili festival

MIDDLEBURY — Costello’s Market took top culinary honors at Middlebury’s Third Annual Winter Carnival and Chili Festival, an event that drew more than 3,000 people to Addison County’s shire town, according to organizers.

The festival was held downtown with traffic blocked from Merchants Row and Main Street from the Middlebury Community House to the new rotary.
