Disciplinary hearing set for Bristol police chief

BRISTOL — The Bristol selectboard will hold a disciplinary hearing in executive session on Dec. 17 related to Police Chief Kevin Gibbs’ handling of a grant over the past three fiscal years.

At issue is a total of $9,754 in town funds that the town of Bristol fronted under the expectation that the money would be reimbursed by a Vermont Department of Health grant.

Bristol Police Log: Bristol woman charged with heroin possession

BRISTOL — The Bristol Police Department dealt with a variety of calls between Aug. 7 and 15. The most noteworthy was on Aug. 7, when Bristol officers assisted Vermont State Police and other agencies in arresting Katherine Heffernan, 27, of Bristol and charging her with possessing heroin with the intent to distribute it.

Police said Heffernan had more than 60 bags of heroin and more than $9,000 in cash on her when arrested (more on this story can be found in the Aug. 13 edition of the Independent).

Bristol votes to change police meeting

BRISTOL — Residents of the Bristol Police District on Monday voted to move their annual meeting from its traditional May date to instead coincide with the March town meeting.

The change also means that voters will be moving from a meeting format where they can debate and change the proposed annual budget on the floor to one where the budget is warned and voted up or down by Australian ballot without the opportunity to tweak it at the meeting.
