WHITING — When Bulwagga Books and Gallery closes its doors after 15 years in business, Whiting will lose one of two retail businesses in town.

It won’t be the end of Bulwagga Books — owners John Travis and Ellen Kurrelmeyer will relocate to a new house in Middlebury and reopen as a smaller, appointment-only shop. But the closing marks the end of a long run that established Bulwagga Books as both a destination for book collectors and a quirky stopping point for the curious along Route 30.

BRANDON — Want to get away without leaving Brandon? Lindy Brown has just the thing — reflexology.

This ancient art and science of manipulating the foot to stimulate different parts of the body and release tension has been around since ancient Egypt, and now it’s here in Brandon. A former pharmacy technician and LPN, Brown apprenticed with Middlebury Reflexologist Katherine Windham after hearing her speak at a women’s club meeting in her hometown of Orwell.

Middlebury parcel comes into focus

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury College and town officials are working on plans to create a legal entity able to field development offers for a 1.5-acre piece of property behind the Ilsley Library in downtown Middlebury.

The land in question is jointly owned by the town and college and has been identified as a logical spot for a mixed-use project that could draw more businesses and shoppers to the downtown area. A special committee was formed last year to oversee planning for the so-called Economic Development Initiative, also known as EDI.

Posted on May 30, 2011 |
By Andrew Stein

BRISTOL — A tavern called ND’s, named after proprietors Nina Badger and David Bannister, is set to replace the bar formerly known as Dan’s Place on the east end of Main Street in Bristol by mid June.

After Dan Palmer closed his bar in February, he was unable to reopen as planned in April.

Fortunately for the loyal following of Dan’s Place frequenters, Badger (who helped Palmer initially decorate and set up his spot) and Bannister (one of Palmer’s investors) are promising a bar very reminiscent of its former self.
