Teen driver charged in Bristol accident that killed elderly pedestrian

BRISTOL — A Bristol 19-year-old who was driving a car that stuck and killed an elderly pedestrian in Bristol last fall has been charged by a grand jury with grossly negligent driving with death resulting, Bristol police disclosed Friday morning.

Ashley Ann Nancollas, according to police, was driving a car down North Street near the intersection of Park Place on Nov. 24, 2012, when her car stuck Ann Roscoe, 86, of Bristol, who was crossing the street.

Former N.Y. resident cited for 'luring' a 15-year-old boy

MIDDLEBURY — A 21-year-old man living in Waltham pleaded not guilty on Monday in Addison County court to two charges of trying to sexually exploit a 15-year-old boy and sending explicit photos to the boy via a cell phone.

Robert Ritchey, a former Potsdam, N.Y., resident who had been renting a room in a Waltham home, faces up to five years and a fine of $10,000 on the first charge of sexual exploitation/luring a child, and another year and a $1,000 fine for sending indecent material to a minor.

Bill looks to slow stolen goods sales by imposing rules on pawnbrokers

MONTPELIER — Legislation introduced last week in the Vermont House by Rep. Diane Lanpher, D-Vergennes, and two colleagues is intended to make it more difficult for those responsible for the many recent burglaries in Addison County and Vermont to dispose of stolen goods.

Addison crime forum draws a big crowd, gets news of major busts

ADDISON — Organizers of a Feb. 7 community forum devoted to concerns about the recent wave of home break-ins in Addison and surrounding towns said 156 local residents showed up to listen to law enforcement officials, who detailed patrols and several recent arrests.

Crime forum organizer Don Jochum said earlier this week about 50 residents who showed up last week at the Addison Central School forum also expressed interest in forming a neighborhood watch group, and that he is working on scheduling a follow-up organizational meeting.

New county investigator will pursue assault and sex crimes

MIDDLEBURY — State and local police are getting a big assist in their investigations of domestic assault and sexual abuse cases thanks to a newly created service based in the Addison County Sheriff’s Department headquarters.

It’s called the Addison County Unit for Special Investigations, or ACUSI, and it includes a part-time investigator to help area law enforcement agencies bring to justice perpetrators of assault and sex crimes against adults and children.

ADDISON COUNTY — A Weybridge homeowner left her residence for an hour and locked every door in the house. She’d heard about area break-ins and her family was taking precautions.

“We were really locking our doors for the first time after 25 years in Vermont,” she recalled.

“We got hit anyway.”

Vergennes police, VSP make heroin bust in Leicester

VERGENNES/LEICESTER — Vergennes police on Tuesday — with a major assist from Vermont State Police — arrested three people in Leicester and charged them with selling heroin after finding more than 350 bags of the drug, $3,670 of cash, marijuana, and a stolen firearm at a Fern Lake Road home.

Police said the street value of each bag ranged from $20 to $30 per bag, meaning the street value of the drug seized by police on Wednesday ranged from $7,000 to $10,500.

Bomoseen man charged in Shoreham domestic violence incident

SHOREHAM — Vermont State Police cited Jason A. Gagnon, 27, of Bomoseen for domestic assault and other charges on Monday after he allegedly tried to force his way into a Shoreham apartment and then allegedly vandalized a car belonging to one of the female occupants who had tried to defend herself with a pistol.

Cornwall man charged in sexual assault on a child

VERGENNES — Vergennes police last Tuesday arrested a Cornwall man at his home and charged him with aggravated sexual assault on a child younger than 10 years old in connection with an incident at a Vergennes business earlier that day.

Michael S. Wedge, 29, was lodged at the Chittenden County Correctional Facility that night for lack of $25,000 bail. The next day he pleaded not guilty in Addison Superior Court, Criminal Division, and was jailed without bail. Wedge could face a sentence of 10 years to life in prison and a fine up to $50,000 if found guilty.
