Local kombucha company expanding in Bristol

BRISTOL — When husband-wife duo Jeff Weaber and Katina Martin moved back to Addison County in 2005, Martin — a naturopathic physician — founded Salisbury Natural Family Health the following year.

Weaber, with his years of brewing experience in Oregon, decided to combine his and his wife’s skillsets to create a beverage high in vitamins and probiotic yeast and bacteria: kombucha, a slightly fermented tea first produced in Asia. In the autumn of 2007, the kombucha company Aqua Vitea was born in the basement of Weaber and Martin’s Salisbury home.

Cider company plans big expansion

MIDDLEBURY — Vermont Hard Cider Co. has filed plans to build a new, 87,005-square-foot bottling plant on a 27.6-acre parcel on the north side of Middlebury’s Exchange Street, between the Bridge School and Maple Landmark Woodcraft.

The nation’s pre-eminent manufacturer of hard cider, Vermont Hard Cider (VHC) has been looking to expand out of its current 60,000 square feet of rented space at 153 Pond Lane, where it produces and markets its increasingly popular brand of Woodchuck hard ciders throughout the country.

Local theater seeks to expand offerings

MIDDLEBURY — Bill Shafer has mapped out some ambitious plans to expand use of the Marquis Theater, but the scope of those plans will largely hinge on his ability to leverage money from some major motion picture studios.
