Holzapfel challenges Lawrences for Ferrisburgh selectboad seat

FERRISBURGH — Residents of Addison County’s third-largest town will have a choice on Town Meeting Day that could unseat a 12-year veteran of its selectboard.

Ferrisburgh selectboard chairwoman Loretta Lawrence is in Ferrisburgh’s only contested race: She is facing a challenge from Arabella Holzapfel, whose most recent appearance in the public eye came in 2012 as a losing candidate for the district of the Vermont House that includes Ferrisburgh, Addison, Panton, Vergennes and Waltham.

Ferrisburgh selectboard reviews safe school route proposals

FERRISBURGH — Recom­men­dations for improvements intended to make it safer for children near Ferrisburgh Central School to walk to school earned mixed reviews from the Ferrisburgh selectboard on Tuesday.

Most selectboard members said they liked at least some of the proposals in a report developed by a town Safe Route to Schools (SRTS) committee with help from the Vermont Agency of Transportation’s SRTS Resource Center.

Ferrisburgh votes to become a Property-Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) district

FERRISBURGH — While the Ferrisburgh selectboard on June 5 considered how to put in place a complex residential energy-efficiency program narrowly backed in March by town residents, the town’s energy committee chairman said a few homeowners are already interested in signing on.

At town meeting, residents voted, 50-49, that Ferrisburgh should become a Property-Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) district.

Ferrisburgh eyes Old Hollow Rd. traffic issue

FERRISBURGH — The Ferrisburgh selectboard at its Tuesday meeting agreed to use equipment borrowed from Shelburne to measure the speed and amount of traffic coming through the North Ferrisburgh village along Old Hollow Road.

The board took that action in response to a petition filed by Old Hollow Road resident Nick Patch and signed by about 90 residents of the area; he said “the vast majority” of the village population wanted something done.

Ferrisburgh board adopts budget; taxes seen stable

FERRISBURGH — Ferrisburgh selectmen on Tuesday approved a roughly $1.619 million town budget for fiscal year 2013, but on Town Meeting Day Ferrisburgh voters will have the option of adding up to $79,000 to that bottom line.

The selectboard’s spending proposal does not include about $29,000 of charitable donations that Ferrisburgh residents typically back in March, plus two articles that would create capital funds: $30,000 for the town’s fire department and $30,000 for the public works department.

Ferrisburgh land sale deadline extended

FERRISBURGH — Ferrisburgh selectmen and the contracted buyer of town-owned land earlier this month reached an agreement to extend for three months a key purchase contingency of the $375,000 contract.

The original terms of the Aug. 1 deal between the town and Montpelier’s Eastern Development Corp. for a 34.9-acre parcel at the junction of Routes 7 and 22A gave the buyer until Nov. 15 — this past Tuesday — to market its still-undisclosed plans for the property after the sale.
