Early morning fire destroys Monkton horse barn

MONKTON — Police are looking for help in determining the origin of a fire that consumed a horse barn in Monkton early Sunday morning.

At approximately 3 a.m. on Feb. 24 the Monkton Fire Department responded to a fire at 271 White Ridge Lane in Monkton. The fire was reported after a Monkton resident saw an “orange glow” in the area of White Ridge Lane.

Fire strikes home on Lake Dunmore while owners away

LEICESTER — Vermont State Police are investigating the source of a fire that caused extensive damage to a home on the shores of Lake Dunmore in Leicester last Thursday morning.

Brandon and Pittsford fire departments responded at a little after 10 a.m. on Jan. 3 to a residential structure fire at 236 Sage Court. The home was unoccupied at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported. The Rutland Herald reported that homeowners Jeff and Cheryl McDonough were away on vacation.

Man badly burned in truck crash on Route 116

BRISTOL — A New Hampshire man was listed in “guarded” condition with second-degree burns at Massachusetts General Hospital on Thursday afternoon after driving his tractor-trailer truck off Route 116 in Bristol, resulting in a fiery crash and a massive response from multiple fire departments, rescue organizations and at least one heroic witness.

MIDDLEBURY — Arson investigators have ruled that a Thursday, July 19 fire at Mister Ups Restaurant was caused by the spontaneous combustion of bark mulch that had been piled up against the base of the building.

Leicester blaze destroys home, displaces family

LEICESTER — A June 12 blaze on Lake Dunmore Road in Leicester destroyed a home and displaced four people.

Eric Mallory, chief of the Brandon Volunteer Fire Department, said the mobile home, located on a rented lot near Cove Point, was occupied at the time by Helen Corbett, another adult female whose name he did not know, an eight-year-old and a ten-year-old.

Mallory reported Corbett said she put clothing in the clothes dryer and shortly afterward saw sparks.

Bristol home destroyed in fire

BRISTOL — A blaze of as-yet unknown origin destroyed an A-frame house at 239 Birch Ledge in Bristol — just off of Route 116 — during the evening of Wednesday, Oct 12. Bristol Fire Department officials confirmed that no one was injured in the blaze and surrounding homes remained untouched, though the structure belonging to John and Tonya Willard was labeled a complete loss.

According to Bristol Lister Claire Scribner, the house had been vacant for some time.
