Panther women's lacrosse stops Trinity Bantams

MIDDLEBURY – In a Saturday matchup of top NCAA Division III and NESCAC teams, the No. 9 Middlebury women’s lacrosse team scored the final 10 goals to erase a four-goal second-half deficit and rally past No. 8 Trinity, 14-8.

In girls' lacrosse, Tigers tame Rutland, 17-6

RUTLAND — The Middlebury Union High School girls’ lacrosse team cruised to a 15-6 victory over host Rutland on Tuesday, a game highlighted by Tiger senior midfielder Satchel McLaughlin’s 100th career goal.

Junior middie Emily Laframboise paced the Tigers with five goals and an assist, and senior middie Isabel Rosenberg chipped in a hat trick to help secure Middlebury’s win.

McLaughlin buried two goals in the second half to hit the 100-goal milestone and added an assist.

In women's lax, No. 21 Colby tips No. 4 Middlebury

MIDDLEBURY — The visiting Colby women’s lacrosse team upset Middlebury on Saturday, 14-12, thwarting a late Panther rally by scoring twice in the final 2:16.

The Panthers, who entered the game ranked No. 4 in NCAA Division III, dropped to 9-2 with their first league loss and are 5-1 in NESCAC play. No. 21 Colby improved to 6-4, 2-4 NESCAC, by becoming only the second team to reach double figures in goals vs. the Panthers and scoring a season high against Middlebury.

Tiger girls' lax mauls the Wolves

SOUTH BURLINGTON — The Middlebury Union High School girls’ lacrosse team on Friday cruised to an 8-2 win against host South Burlington in a game that was called at halftime due to weather and field conditions.

The result gave first-year coach and former Tiger standout Brandi Whittemore a victory in her varsity head-coaching debut.

The conditions on Friday were tough from the beginning, and it took brooms and shovels to uncover the lines from the snow, but the Wolves and Tigers braved the weather for the season opener.

Middlebury boys' lacrosse defeats Burlington and B&B

BURLINGTON — The Middlebury Union High School boys’ lacrosse team opened its season last week with a pair of road wins, defeating host Burlington, 11-5, on Wednesday, and Burr & Burton, 7-6, on Saturday.

The Tigers’ home game vs. Essex on this Monday was moved to Essex due to field conditions in Middlebury; game time will remain at 4 p.m.

On Wednesday the Tigers took an early lead in cruising to a win over the Seahorses, who moved up from D-II this spring.

Women's lacrosse takes three straight victories

MIDDLEBURY — The Middlebury College women’s lacrosse team won three times in the past week, including a key NESCAC victory at previously unbeaten Amherst, to improve to 9-1, 5-0 in league play.

The Panthers, who held all three foes to fewer than 10 goals and have only allowed as many as 10 goals once this spring, were ranked No. 4 in this week’s NCAA Division III poll. They will host NESCAC foe Colby, ranked No. 21, on Saturday at noon.

Women's lax grounds Cardinals, climbs to No. 2 in NCAA Division III

MIDDLEBURY — The Middlebury College women’s lacrosse team cruised to a 13-1 NESCAC victory over visiting Wesleyan Saturday to improve to 13-1. The Panthers (5-0 overall, 3-0 NESCAC) moved up to No. 2 from No. 4 in the NCAA Division III rankings after No. 2 TCNJ and No. 3 Trinity both suffered their first losses last week. Defending champ Gettysburg (5-0) remained No. 1. The Panthers host No. 20 Bowdoin this coming Saturday at noon.

Wesleyan outscores Middlebury men's lacrosse

MIDDLEBURY — The Middlebury College men’s lacrosse team opened and closed Saturday’s home game vs. NESCAC rival Wesleyan strong, but the Cardinals hit the Panthers with a 12-3 mid-game run on the way to a 17-15 victory that was also Middlebury’s third straight close loss.

The 2-3 Panthers entered last week ranked No. 10 in NCAA Division III, but that was before Saturday and a midweek 11-10 loss at No. 5 St. Lawrence. Their earlier setback came at No. 3 Tufts, 16-13.

Panther women's lax soars over the Cardinals

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. — The Middlebury College women’s lacrosse team on Saturday scored four straight times to start the second half and break open a one-goal game en route to a 10-6 victory at 18th-ranked Wesleyan (4-2). The Panthers, at 4-0 ranked No. 1 in NCAA Division III, will host RPI on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. and visit Bowdoin at noon on Saturday.

Senior Mary O’Connell, who scored her 100th career goal during the game, scored the game’s first three goals in the first 7:30. Georgia Carroll scored less than a minute later for a four-goal edge.
