Salisbury man dies at VSP call

SALISBURY — Vermont State Police reported that a Salisbury man apparently shot and killed himself early last Thursday morning after troopers responded to a 911 call from his home off Lake Dunmore Road for a domestic dispute, and the man pointed a gun at them.

Gerald “Dusty” Woodburn, 52, died in the incident; no one else was injured.

Police talk with man distributing racist stickers

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police during the evening of Wednesday, Nov. 16, investigated complaints about a man distributing racist literature to passersby and storeowners in the Marble Works shopping complex.

Investigating police officer Kristine Bowdish said a local man had been passing out stickers that evening bearing three different racist messages, including, “Enough! Whites: let’s start taking back America now!” and “Stop Immigration! Non-whites are turning America into a Third World slum.”

Police gather evidence from a wave of Bristol robberies

BRISTOL — A recent string of Bristol burglaries has many townspeople worried. But there may be something that Bristol Police District residents can do.

Police Chief Kevin Gibbs said the unusual increase in burglaries is perhaps double what it was last year, though he hadn’t yet quantified the change. He pointed to a rising demand for heroin in Bristol and a short-staffed police department as reasons contributing to this increase.

Update: Salisbury man dies in shooting incident with VSP

Vergennes aldermen eye sites for new police HQ

Vermont State Police Log: Man cited for leaving Bristol accident scene

ADDISON COUNTY — Vermont State Police were called on Sunday, Oct. 16, at 5:13 p.m. to investigate a car accident on Lincoln Road in Bristol where one vehicle left the scene after the collision.

Troopers Hatch and Szarejko reported that they located the vehicle off the side of the road in Lincoln. They said the driver, Lincoln resident David Warner, was intoxicated.

Middlebury Police Log: Police help woman who was target of a scam

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police assisted a local woman who was the target of a phone scam on Oct. 10. Police said the woman had received a call from a person who told her she owed money and would be arrested if she did not send in payment.

Police told her it was a scam and that they would not arrest her.

Vergennes Police Log: 16-year-old charged as adult in city assault

VERGENNES — Vergennes police on Saturday arrested a 16-year-old New York City resident and Northlands Job Corps student and charged him with aggravated assault after the student allegedly cut another male student with a knife.

Police said the assault stemmed from an apparent hazing incident in which the alleged assailant — Ronald Medina, who is being charged as an adult — repeatedly asked the victim, a new student on the campus, to clean up dishes and pick up trash in a Northlands dormitory.

Probe into death awaiting final test

VERGENNES — Although Vergennes Police Chief George Merkel said earlier this month he hoped to be able to complete by late last week a report on the death of a Vergennes resident during a Sept. 28 armed robbery, he confirmed on Thursday that the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office will not complete its part of the work until mid-November.

City police investigate death of robbery suspect

VERGENNES — The investigation into the death of a 34-year-old John Graham Shelter resident during a Sept. 28 armed robbery should be complete no later than by the end of next week, said Vergennes Police Chief George Merkel.

Yemalla Sprauve, 34, died of undetermined causes after allegedly assaulting a male clerk at the Champlain Farms convenience store shortly after 4 a.m. on the 28th.
