Route 7 traffic light design work to begin in Ferrisburgh

FERRISBURGH — The wait for a fully signalized traffic light at the Ferrisburgh intersection of Route 7 with Little Chicago and Middlebrook roads might still best be measured in years.

But the Agency of Transportation has been working on the project and is planning on presenting a design to the town selectboard this summer, according to an email from VTrans project manager Joshua Schultz.

Court OKs gas station, restaurant on Route 7 in Ferrisburgh

FERRISBURGH — The Environmental Court has ruled in favor of South Burlington firm Champlain Oil Co. (COCO) in COCO’s lengthy effort to build a gas station, a convenience store and fast-food restaurant on Route 7 in Ferrisburgh.

Environmental Court Judge Thomas Durkin’s Oct. 10 ruling not only granted COCO a permit for its project, but also overturned conditions that the Ferrisburgh Zoning Board of Adjustment (ZBA) had placed on the business, notably by allowing COCO to sell diesel fuel and to open earlier and close later.

State to put traffic light in Ferrisburgh village

FERRISBURGH — The Agency of Transportation has pledged within the next several years to put traffic lights at the Ferrisburgh intersection of Route 7 with Little Chicago and Middlebrook roads, which is in the heart of the town’s population center and is near Ferrisburgh Central School.

Omya puts Middlebury rail spur on hold

MIDDLEBURY (AP) — A proposed $32 million rail spur that would be used to alleviate truck traffic between marble processor Omya Inc.’s quarry in Middlebury and its calcium carbonate plant in Pittsford has been put on hold indefinitely.

Given the sluggish economy and cost of the project, the company and Vermont Rail Systems are not pursuing it, said Omya plant manager Jim Stewart.

Middlebury eyes Rt. 7 intersection

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury officials believe the answer to getting any speedy, substantial improvements to the intersection of Route 7 North and Exchange Street might lie in the community offering to take on some of the costs of that state project.
