Three RNeSU towns to consider school spending hikes

LEICESTER/WHITING/GOSHEN — The past two years have seen reduced budgets for schools around the state, but the 2012-2013 fiscal year spending at Rutland Northeast Supervisory Union elementary schools looks to be on the rise once again.

“Over the last few years we’ve done so much cutting that there’s not much left to cut,” said Matt Brush, chair of the Leicester Central School board, which warned a budget with a spending increase of 4.6 percent over the current year.

Mary Hogan proposes spending hike, lower tax

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury residents on April 11 will vote on a proposed 2012-2013 Mary Hogan Elementary School spending plan of $6,144,811, representing a 4.15-percent increase compared to the current spending plan.

Ferrisburgh school budget set

FERRISBURGH — Ferrisburgh selectmen on Tuesday approved a roughly $1.619 million town budget for fiscal year 2013, but on Town Meeting Day Ferrisburgh voters will have the option of adding up to $79,000 to that bottom line.

The selectboard’s spending proposal does not include about $29,000 of charitable donations that Ferrisburgh residents typically back in March, plus two articles that would create capital funds: $30,000 for the town’s fire department and $30,000 for the public works department.

Mount Abe keeps spending steady

BRISTOL — The Mount Abraham Union Middle and High School board on Tuesday approved a proposed budget that would level-fund education spending for next fiscal year.

Under the proposal, overall expenses would increase 0.7 percent to $13,542,142, but education spending — the part of the budget that directly affects tax rates — would remain the same as this year at $11,309,068. Additionally, the per pupil spending rate would increase 4.1 percent next year to $13,552.
