SunCommon withdraws plan for solar array in Cornwall

CORNWALL — SunCommon has decided to withdraw its application for a proposed solar array off West Street in Cornwall, citing setback issues and a state-mandated archaeological review of the project site.

After opposition, SunCommon pulls plug on solar array

NEW HAVEN — A Vermont solar company has withdrawn a proposal for a solar array near Route 7 in New Haven after neighbors complained it would be an eyesore and hurt their business.

Waterbury firm SunCommon had planned to site a one-acre, 150-kilowatt Community Solar Array (CSA) on Route 7 just south of Town Hill Road, on land owned by the Gilbert family. The site was behind Tourterelle inn and restaurant.

Opinion: Solar sector offers jobs for state

It seems a week doesn’t goes by without someone in the media bemoaning the lack of job opportunities for young people in Vermont. While Vermont is an attractive place to live, we need professional jobs to keep our population rooted. The solar industry, while not new, has seen remarkable growth as costs have become affordable, and accessible programs like community solar arrays pop up. Turns out that deploying clean, renewable technology necessitates a significant workforce.

SunCommon withdraws Route 7 solar proposal in New Haven

NEW HAVEN — The application for what has become a controversial 150-kilowatt community solar array in New Haven was withdrawn on Dec. 19. Waterbury solar firm SunCommon withdrew the application with the Public Service Board citing community concerns.

The proposal would have occupied about one acre on the west side of Route 7 near the Waltham town line. The company noted opposition to the project in its decision to end its bid, and issued the following statement:

New Haven planning commission talks solar reform

SunCommon floats plan for community solar

WALTHAM — Weather-wise, this past Thursday wasn’t the best day to announce a major solar project. It was, in fact, nearly the worst — 40 degrees, gusting winds, overcast skies and a downpour that showed no signs of relenting.

NEW HAVEN — A New Haven couple has raised concerns about a solar array that was recently approved — over their objection — for construction near their Dog Team Road home.
