FERRISBURGH — After about a year and a half of silence, financial talks might be ready to resume between the town of Ferrisburgh and the Massachusetts companies — Anbaric Transmission and National Grid — proposing a $650 million, 400-megawatt power line that in part would run underground along Ferrisburgh roads.

The companies, now doing business as Green Line Infrastructure Alliance, filed in October an application with the Vermont Public Service Board to run the 60-mile power line from Beekmantown, N.Y., to New Haven.

ADDISON COUNTY — The developers of the proposed Vermont Green Line that could bring millions of dollars to Addison County towns that host the electric power transmission line say the project is still moving forward despite loosing its principal customer.

National Grid and Anbaric Transmission, the VGL development partners, last fall failed to win their bid to sell renewable power to Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island.

But they are now looking “upstream,” National Grid’s Joe Rossignoli told the Independent recently.

FERRISBURGH — Craig Heindel, head of the town of Ferrisburgh’s Vermont Green Line Committee, told the Ferrisburgh selectboard last Tuesday that the committee that day had received a new draft of a “Host Town Agreement” from the companies proposing to bury a major power line along town roads between Kingsland Bay and Route 7 and then south to New Haven.

However, Heindel said, the agreement, while containing reams of documents relating to technical aspects of the project, lacked an essential component: It failed to show Ferrisburgh the money.

NEW HAVEN — Over a year of negotiations culminated at Tuesday night’s selectboard meeting, when the New Haven selectboard approved and then signed an agreement with developers of the Vermont Green Line to site a 400 megawatt power line converter station in New Haven.

The Vermont Green Line will bring wind and hydro power from upstate New York into the New England grid at the VELCO substation in New Haven. The deal is expected to funnel millions of dollars into town coffers in exchange for allowing construction of the huge converter station.
