Vermont Hard Cider sold for reported $305 million, purchaser expects growth in Middlebury operations

MIDDLEBURY — The Vermont Hard Cider Company LLC — maker of Woodchuck Hard Cider, the top selling cider brand in the United States — has conditionally agreed to combine with C&C Group, maker of cider brands in Ireland and the U.K.  The transaction, which is subject to competition and regulatory approvals, will allow the company to fully harness and maximize the growth of its U.S. cider business.

Terms of the deal were not announced. Business news websites this morning said the sale was valued at $305 million.

Cider company plans big expansion

MIDDLEBURY — Vermont Hard Cider Co. has filed plans to build a new, 87,005-square-foot bottling plant on a 27.6-acre parcel on the north side of Middlebury’s Exchange Street, between the Bridge School and Maple Landmark Woodcraft.

The nation’s pre-eminent manufacturer of hard cider, Vermont Hard Cider (VHC) has been looking to expand out of its current 60,000 square feet of rented space at 153 Pond Lane, where it produces and markets its increasingly popular brand of Woodchuck hard ciders throughout the country.

GMB: Former worker stole cider secrets for rival brand

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury-based cidermaker Green Mountain Beverage (GMB) is suing a former employee whom it alleges stole company secrets for use in the making of his own brand of hard cider.
