WHITE RIVER JUNCTION — The Vergennes Champs and Middlebury Marlins capped their enjoyable summer swim team seasons in style this past weekend at Vermont Swim Association Championship meet, which was held at the Upper Valley Aquatic Center in White River Junction.
The Champs scored 1,715 points to become the only team based outside of Chittenden County to crack the top five at the 20-team competition. MIDDLEBURY — Addison County residents were recognized for their excellence both in and out of the pool this past Friday and Saturday, July 26 and 27, in the Champlain Valley Swim League Championships. Eight teams, totaling 510 athletes, traveled from as far away as St. Albans to compete at the Middlebury Town Pool.
The Vergennes Swim Team, known as the Champs, took 4th place overall, and the Middlebury Marlins finished 7th.

VERGENNES — The Vergennes Swim Team edged visiting Burlington Country Club, 235-214, on Thursday, July 18, as the Champs’ successful Champlain Valley Swim League regular season wrapped up.
The Champs finished 5-2, historically one of the best records posted by an Addison County team in a league typically dominated by larger Chittenden County teams.
The team always celebrates the end of the regular season with a night swim at the Vergennes city pool, but might have enjoyed this summer’s event on that Thursday even more than usual.

MIDDLEBURY — Tuesday’s scoresheets show the visiting Vergennes Champs defeated the Middlebury Marlins, 275-203, in the annual duel between the friendly Champlain Valley Swim League rivals.
Many swimmers had big days. Under-10 Champs swimmer Will Clark won another three races, as did U-8 Marlin Aurora Foley, U-14 Marlin Aiden Chance and U-18 Marlin Oliver Poduschnick.
Three Champs won two races apiece: Grey Fearon, Gavin Conrad and Jordan Jewell. Three Marlins joined them as double winners: Constantin Bellman, Ava Schneider and Natalie Rockwell.

ST. ALBANS — The Vergennes Swim Team edged host St. Albans on Tuesday, 244-226, in a Champlain Valley Swim League meet as the Champs evened their record at 2-2.
Will Clark won another three of his races for Vergennes, and Annika Smits, Adrienne Smits, Connor Husk and Gideon Palmer picked up two victories apiece to pace the team.
The Champs will host Essex on Thursday before visiting Middlebury on this coming Tuesday.

BURLINGTON — On July 2 host Burlington Tennis Club edged the Vergennes Champs swim club, 252-222, in a match that was close throughout.
Under-10 swimmer Will Clark won three races to pace the Champs, and U-8 swimmers Laura Husk and Connor Husk picked up two victories apiece for Vergennes.
The Champs return to action this week by visiting St. Albans on Tuesday and hosting the Town of Essex Swim Team on Thursday.

VERGENNES — The Vergennes Champs swim team opened last week with good weather, a roster of 111, and a split of two meets, falling on the road to defending Champlain Valley Swim League champion Edge, 280-209, on June 25, and returning home on June 27 to coast past Winooski, 275-133.
