Vermont State Police Log: DUIs, suspended licenses, speeding, fraud

ADDISON COUNTY — On July 22 at a little before 4 p.m. someone alerted Vermont State Police to a vehicle operating erratically and travelling southbound on Route 7 near Town Hill Road in New Haven.
Troopers found the vehicle, stopped it and identified the driver as Craig Getty, 44, of Georgia. While speaking with Getty, the officer observed several signs of alcohol impairment and had Getty perform a series of tests to ensure that he could safely operate a motor vehicle.
State police ultimately took Getty into custody and cited him for driving under the influence, second offense, and driving with a criminally suspended license.
In other recent activity, troopers:
• On July 1 got a home improvement fraud complaint from an Orwell resident. Troopers alleged that between February and July David Leonard, 42, of Salisbury committed the offense of home improvement fraud. Troopers said that Leonard misused approximately $10,000. Police also alleged that during the course of the investigation, Leonard committed the offense of obstruction of justice. They cited Leonard for fraud and obstruction.
• On July 5 at around 4 p.m. responded to a report of a vehicle submerged in the water at the South Slang Fishing Access in Ferrisburgh. Troopers detected signs of impairment in driver Amanda Rogers-Wilson, 24, of Vergennes, administered standardized field sobriety tests and arrested her for suspicion of driving under the influence. Rogers-Wilson was transported to the New Haven Barracks for processing and cited for DUI-Refusal.
• On July 9 conducted a saturation patrol on Route 22A in Addison and Bridport between 5 and 7:30 p.m.
The four troopers involved stopped eight vehicles, issued six traffic tickets and two warnings. Two drivers received tickets for driving with civilly suspended licenses.
• On July 11 at approximately 11 minutes after midnight stopped a black 2005 BMW 330 on Route 7 in Ferrisburgh that police said was passing vehicles at a high rate of speed. Police alleged that Tupper Hinsdale, 23, of Vergennes was driving 86 mph in a 50 mph zone, and they cited him for excessive speed, issued tickets that carry a fine of $378 and two points.
• On July 11 at approximately 3 a.m. responded to a car crash in the area of Route 116 and Carlstrom Road in Bristol. Police said that driver Austin Wedge, 19, of Brandon, who was not hurt, told them that he fell asleep and drifted off the road. Police said neither alcohol nor drugs were contributing factors in this crash.
• On July 12 at 10 minutes before 8 a.m. came upon a two-vehicle crash on Route 7 at the intersection of Lime Kiln Road in New Haven. Shannon Palmer, 49, of Vergennes, who was driving a VW Golf, sustained minor injuries and was taken to Porter Medical Center. Scott Myrick, 73, of Bristol, who was driving an Audi AA4, was not injured. Both vehicles were totaled. Neither alcohol nor drugs played a factor in the collision, police said.
Vermont State Police were assisted by the New Haven Fire Department, Vergennes Area Rescue Squad, and the Addison County Sheriff’s Department.
Route 7 was temporarily reduced to one lane of travel.
• On July 14 were notified of an assortment of items left near a dumpster in the parking lot of the Orwell Village School. The items include an assortment of tools and flashlights. If you believe these items may be yours, or know who the owner is, contact Trooper Murdock at 802-388-4919. Be prepared to provide descriptions of the found items.
• On July 15 received a report of a burglary at the Lemon Fair Insect Control District office on Weybridge Road in Weybridge. Someone broke in and stole an Olympus SZ-6045 Zoom Stereomicroscope, Adam CPW Plus Industrial Scale and a Nikon D80 Camera. • On July 15 at around 12:30 p.m. responded to a report of an orange and black farm truck that was speeding and failing to stop at intersections in Bridport. Police ended up citing James Turner, 29, of Shoreham for driving with a criminally suspended license. Police said that Turner admitted to them that he has never possessed a driver’s license.
• On July 17 at approximately 7 p.m. responded to a report of an assault. Subsequent investigation showed that an alleged assault took place on Old Stage Road in Monkton between the 6:30 and 7 p.m. on July 17. • On July 18 at a little after 1 a.m. responded to a report of a vehicle that left the roadway and hit a telephone pole off Dog Team Road in New Haven. Troopers cited Nathan Merrill, 30, of Vergennes for driving under the influence, second offense. Nobody was injured in the crash. Traffic tickets are pending.
• On July 19 at 45 minutes past midnight observed a silver 2015 Toyota Corolla travelling northbound on West Main Street in Vergennes at a high rate of speed. Troopers said that Alex Dias-Liebold, 20, of Westville, N.J., was driving 63 mph in a 30 mph zone. They cited him for excessive speed and also issued Dias-Liebold a civil ticket for speeding, which carries a penalty of $502 and 8 points.
• On July 19 at approximately 4:30 p.m. checked out the report of a car crashed into a tree on Maple Run Road in Leicester. Police said that Kayla Warner, 28, of Florence was driving 25 mph when her vehicle left the road and her vehicle struck a tree head on. Police cited Warner for DUI refusal and released her to a sober party.
• On July 19 at approximately 11:10 p.m. stopped a vehicle seen weaving on Route 7 and 17 in New Haven. Police ended up citing Devan Corliss, 26, of Burlington for DUI-refusal and driving with a criminally suspended license.
• On July 20 around 4:30 p.m. stopped a motor vehicle stop on Route 30 in Middlebury. Troopers cited William Runnells, 54, of Salisbury for driving under the influence of drugs.
• On July 21 stopped motor vehicle on Route 7 in New Haven for an equipment violation. Troopers cited Benjamin Ripple, 43, of West Hartford, Conn., for driving with a criminally suspended license.
• On July 22 at a little after 10 p.m. stopped a motor vehicle on Interstate 91 in Bradford and cited 39-year-old Granville resident Gretchen Frost for with a criminally suspended license.
