Music, art, lasting impressions talk set at Ilsley

MIDDLEBURY — Dartmouth professor Irene Kacandes will look at the role played by the creative arts in communicating important truths in a talk at Ilsley Public Library in Middlebury on Wednesday, Oct. 3, at 7 p.m. Her talk, “Creativity and Historical Truths,” is part of the Vermont Humanities Council’s First Wednesdays lecture series and is free and open to the public.
Despite journalism’s essential role in informing the public about significant events, Prof. Kacandes will argue that it’s memoir, fiction, music, and art that often best convey truth and leave lasting impressions.
Kacandes is the Dartmouth Professor of German Studies and Comparative Literature at Dartmouth College.
