RIPTON — The Vermont Drug Task Force, a unit of the Vermont State Police, arrested Maleek Drummond, 31, of Brooklyn, N.Y., on June 14 in Ripton and charged him with trafficking heroin and possession of marijuana.

Members of the task force, other troopers and deputies from the Rutland County Sheriff's Department searched a Ripton home last Thursday, following an investigation into heroin trafficking. Drummond was the only person in the house.

Detectives observed 15 heroin bags in plain view, according to a VSP press release, and after a search located an additional 150 bags of heroin stuffed inside a baby sock. On Drummond they found more than $1,600 in cash and a small amount of marijuana, police said. According to the attorney general’s office,  police found, in total, 5.26 grams of heroin and 4 grams of marijuana.

Drummond was arraigned in Rutland County Court on June 15 and lodged at the Marble Valley Correctional Center with bail set at $100,000.

The Vermont Attorney General’s Office, which will try the case, said Drummond faces up to 30 and a half years in prison and a fine of up to $1,000,500 if found guilty of all charges.
