Middlebury Police Log: Police euthanize strange skunk

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police investigated, with Department of Fish & Wildlife officials, a report of a skunk acting strangely in the Jayne Court neighborhood on Aug. 5. State officials determined the skunk, which they euthanized, was either injured or rabid. Police said no one in the neighborhood reported being scratched or bitten by the animal.

In other recent action, Middlebury police:

•  Were informed that a pad had been stolen off a crane parked off MacIntyre Lane on July 30.

•  Served a temporary restraining order on a local man on July 30.

•  Prevented an underage drinking party at a local home on July 30 that a local juvenile had advertised on Facebook.

•  Cited Joey E. Ciaramitaro, 18, of Middlebury for driving with a suspended license, following a stop on Elm Street on July 30.

•  Responded to a noise complaint in the Woodbridge Lane neighborhood on July 30.

•  Spoke on July 31 with the parents of a teen who was featured in a Facebook photo holding what appeared to be a can of beer.

•  Investigated a report on July 31 that someone’s bank account had been overdrawn because of a counterfeit check.

•  Assisted on July 31 a local woman whose credit card number had been fraudulently used to make a purchase of clothing over the Internet.

•  Investigated a harassment complaint in the Merchants Row area on July 31.

•  Responded to the reported theft of some jewelry from an Ossie Road home on July 31.

•  Were informed about the theft of an older, silver girl’s mountain bike from the porch of a North Pleasant Street residence on July 31.

•  Served a no-trespass order on a local man on Aug. 1.

•  Served a no-trespass order on a woman who had allegedly been panhandling in front of the Middlebury Village Depot on Court Street on Aug. 2.

•  Responded to a family dispute in the Skyline Lane neighborhood on Aug. 2.

•  Were informed that someone had stolen a 30-foot length of green septic hose from a truck parked off Route 7 South on Aug. 3.

•  Investigated a report of someone trying to use a fake identification card to buy alcohol at Hannaford supermarket on Court Street on Aug. 3.

•  Investigated an alleged domestic violence case on Nashua Lane on Aug. 3.

•  Responded to a family dispute in the Court Street area on Aug. 4.

•  Learned on Aug. 4 that a Middlebury College student had solved the mystery surrounding her bike, reported stolen last month. Turns out the bike had been sold to a bike shop, then was purchased by a college professor.

•  Warned a driver about leaving his dog unattended inside a hot vehicle on Washington Street on Aug. 4.

•  Cited Bryant Avalos, 20, of San Fernando, Calif., for possession of marijuana following a stop on Route 7 South on Aug. 4.

•  Responded to a dispute between a drunken couple on Piper Road on Aug. 4.

•  Responded to a noise complaint on South Street on Aug. 5.
