ADDISON COUNTY — Vermont State Police are investigating a burglary at a camp on the Upper Notch Road in Bristol that occurred between the end of August and Oct. 26. There was a substantial amount of damage done to the residence. Sgt. James Hogan said there appears to be a connection between this incident and other burglaries in that area where copper tubing was targeted. The camp on Upper Notch Road was broken into in February of this year and all the copper tubing was taken.

“It’s possible that the same perpetrator(s) returned to see if the owner had replaced the plumbing with more copper,” Hogan said.

Only days later VSP were called to investigate an Oct. 30 burglary off Lincoln Road in Ripton. Police said copper piping, copper heaters and a chainsaw where taken from a house and small secondary cabin on the property.

The investigations are still active and leads are being pursued, Hogan said. Anyone with any information is asked to contact VSP at 802-388-4914.

Separately, troopers are asking for help from the public in their investigation of a daytime burglary last week at a Burpee Road residence in Bristol that police said appears to be unrelated to the other burglaries.

Trooper said someone entered into the home between 10:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 26. The homeowner said on the Front Porch Forum that “the thieves ransacked clothes bureaus and closets for valuables, taking mostly jewelry and some Canadian cash.” The stolen items had sentimental as well as monetary value.

Anyone who noticed any suspicious person or vehicles in the area during that time is asked to contact the VSP barracks in New Haven at 802-388-4914.

In other recent activity, VSP:

On Oct. 26 at around 1:45 p.m. arrested Steven Lackard, 27, of Ripton and cited him for violating an abuse prevention order by sending two text messages and a voicemail to a person whom he had been ordered to leave alone.

On Oct. 26 responded to a one-car collision on Route 17 in Weybridge in which a 16-year-old driver reportedly was driving too fast for conditions, lost control of the vehicle and overturned. The New Haven Fire Department and Vergennes Area Rescue Squad arrived on scene to secure the safety of the vehicle and driver, who was transported to Porter Hospital and released after treatment of minor injuries.

Are investigating vandalism to a mailbox off Plank Road in Bristol at around 4 p.m. on Oct. 29. Police said someone put a roman candle in the mailbox, causing the mail to start to burn. Anyone with any information is asked to contact the VSP barracks in New Haven at 802-388-4914.

Are investigating the theft of approximately $200 from a farm stand lock box in Starksboro before 4:30 p.m. on Oct. 29. Anyone with any information is asked to contact VSP at 802-388-4914.

On Nov. 1 at 7:25 a.m. responded to a motorcycle accident on Route 73 in Orwell. Police said Perry Richards, 49, of West Haven was driving a 2009 motorcycle eastbound on Route 73 about 200 feet east of Young Road when the cycle went down on its left side as Richards was going around a sharp left curve; driver and cycle slid off the south side of the road. The weather was clear but there was a substantial amount of loose material in the road, Sgt. Hogan reported. The Orwell Fire Department and Orwell First Response rushed to the scene. Middlebury Volunteer Ambulance Association transported Perry to Porter Hospital to be treated for cuts and bruises.
