Lucien Curtis Jr.

LINCOLN — Lucien (Luke) Curtis Jr., 75, died at home in Lincoln on Saturday, April 28, 2018. He was born August 8, 1942, in Verona, N.J., the son of Lucien Sr. and Hazel Curtis. He had a lifelong connection with Vermont and our Lincoln farmhouse and property. Later he lived here for over 30 years, raising his young family.

Ruth Louise Coyle

LINCOLN — On Friday afternoon, April 20, 2018, Ruth Louise Coyle, 95, had her wish granted and was released from her earthly body into the loving arms of her Lord Savior, Jesus Christ.

Clarence John Newton

RUTLAND — Clarence John Newton Jr. 76, formerly of Middlebury, died late Saturday evening April 21, 2018, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.

He was born April 19, 1942 in Burlington, Vt. the son of Clarence J. Newton Sr. and Muriel (Dorey) Newton.

Clarence was a graduate of Middlebury High School. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Clarence was an avid New York Yankees and Giants fan. He enjoyed cutting wood, carpentry, building furniture, music and dancing.

Margaret M. Johnson

LONDONDERRY, N.H. — Margaret M. "Peg" Johnson, 88, of Londonderry, N.H., passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Monday, April 23, 2018 in Londonderry, N.H.

She was born in Kearny, N.J. on April 15, 1930, a daughter of Adam and Jessie (Lamont) Muir, and had been a resident of Londonderry for the past 15 years, formerly living in Middlebury, Vt. for 30 years.

Mary Rose Rowe

CORNWALL — Mary Rose Rowe of Cornwall died peacefully at home on April 22, 2018 — a beautiful spring day — after a period of declining health. She was just shy of her 83rd birthday. Mary was the daughter of the late Joseph and Rose (Przychodzien) Novak. She was born in Lynn, Mass., and graduated from Lynn Classical High School in 1952. She then attended Boston College and worked at General Electric in Lynn.

Albert Thomas Lunna

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Albert Thomas Lunna, beloved husband, father, grandfather, teacher, and coach, passed into his Eternal Life on Sunday, April 15, 2018. His wife and best friend, Linda, remains to carry on.

Al had been hospitalized since March 2nd in Albuquerque, New Mexico, having developed complications from end stage Renal Disease. He had bounced back from numerous operations since 1996 stemming from Osteoarthritis and referred to himself as a “broken down athlete.”

Elsie Margaret (Wood) Munson

SHOREHAM, Vt./SEBRING, Fla. — Elsie Margaret (Wood) Munson, 86, passed away at home on Thursday, April 19, 2018, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Fort Fairfield, Maine. on January 26, 1932, the daughter of the late John F. and Helen Christine (Jewett) Wood. In 1953, she married Kenneth L. Munson Sr., who predeceased her in 1993.

Elise worked for many years as a seamstress at Van Raalte until their closing. She also worked in the kitchen at Middlebury Union High School, and finished her career at Middlebury College.

Charlotte D. Mosenthal

BRISTOL — Charlotte D. Mosenthal, artist and painter, died peacefully on March 29, 2018, in Bristol, Vermont, at the age of 94.

Diana M. DeGray

MIDDLEBURY — Diana M. DeGray, 56, passed away peacefully Friday, April 20, 2018, at her residence in Middlebury.

She was born May 14, 1961, in Middlebury the daughter of George H. and Joyce (Stearns) DeGray.

Diana was a graduate of Middlebury Union High School and received her Bachelor’s Degree from Castleton State College.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Diana was an avid baker. She loved to read, dance and listen to music. She enjoyed being surrounded by her family, friends and her dog.

Anita Jones Burnham

ALBURGH — Anita Jones Burnham, age 89, passed away on Thursday, April 19, 2018, at her daughter’s home in Alburgh.

She was born in Cambridge, Vermont, on March 22, 1929, to the late Raymond & Elizabeth (Barrows) Jones.

She graduated from Peoples Academy in Morrisville. Following graduation, she met and married William Burbank. Together they relocated from Newport to Vergennes, where Anita worked for Simmonds Precision and Addison County Counseling until her retirement.

Submitting an obituary

The Addison Independent publishes paid obituaries and free notices of passing. Paid obituaries cost 25-cents per word, and $10 per photo. The obituary will publish as it is submitted on the date of the family’s choosing.

For those who do not wish to purchase an obituary, the Addison Independent offers anyone with a local connection the opportunity to publish a notice of passing. These notices may be up to 100 words and are subject to editing by our news department.

Submissions must be received by 11 a.m. on Wednesday for publication in the Thursday paper and 11 a.m. on Friday for Monday’s paper.

Generally, obituaries follow this form:
TOWN — Name, age, of town, died on date, of cause of death. He/She was born on date in town, the son/daughter of father's name and mother's name, including maiden name in parentheses.

Then include a paragraph or two about where the person went to school and what they did for work; where they lived, who they married and when.

Add a sentence or two about what made the person special to family and friends, including hobbies, avocations or other telling details about their life.

He/She is survived by spouse's name; children named individually (and their spouses and towns of residence, if appropriate); siblings named individually; number of grandchildren, parents or other immediate family members.

He/She was predeceased by names of immediate family members.

A memorial service will be held (fill in details of date, time, and place, plus officiate if applicable) with interment at (place). Memorial contributions may be made to (name and complete address, if applicable).
