RICHARD DAVID JEROME

MONKTON — Richard David “Dick” Jerome, 77, of Monkton passed away peacefully on March 27, 2013, surrounded by his family.

Dick was born in Burlington on Jan. 14, 1936, the son of the late David and Beulah (Mitchell) Jerome.

On Jan 31, 1953, he married the love of his life, Veronica LaBelle, and they began their life together in Panton, where he was employed by Simmonds Precision and retired after 38 years of service.

DONNA PALMER

LEICESTER —Donna Marie “Ducky” Palmer, 69, died Monday, March 25, 2013, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.

She was born in Brandon on July 20, 1943. She was the daughter of Homer and Freda (Devino) Mitchell. She received her early education in local Brandon schools and graduated from Brandon High School, class of 1961.

EMILE DESAUTELS

MIDDLEBURY — Emile J. Desautels,88, of Middlebury died early Saturday morning, March 23, 2013, at his home following a long illness.

He was born on Sept. 6, 1924, in Middlebury, the son of Henry and Justine (Bourgeois) Desautels. He attended Middlebury area schools. He grew up helping on his parents’ farm and learned to move buildings from his father. As a young man he worked erecting radio towers on the East Coast.

In 1948 he married Mary Sankowski at the St. Stanislaus Polish Church in West Rutland.

ROBERT O'BRYAN

BRISTOL — Robert L. O’Bryan, 80, of Bristol died Friday, March 22, 2013, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington.

He was born Sept. 6, 1932, in Morrison, N.Y., the son of Guy and Vena Shepard O’Bryan.

He is survived by his wife, Fran; and four children, Brenda Lee Svitavsky, William R. O’Bryan, Nelson D. O’Bryan, and Milie-Jean Costillo.

He was predeceased by five brothers, Ronald, Donald, Melwood, Larry and Ed O’Bryan.

There will be no funeral services.

DONNA PALMER

LEICESTER — Donna M. Palmer, 69, of Leicester died Monday, March 25, 2013, at the Rutland Region Medical Center.

EDITH PIGOT

SANTA ROSA, Calif. — Edith S. (Lane) Pigot, 101, of Santa Rosa died Feb. 26, 2013.

In the 1950s she and her family operated guesthouses: Holiday Hill in Salisbury, Vt., and The Open Hearth in Cornwall, Vt.

Born in New York City, she was raised in Brattleboro in her younger years until her father’s work transferred the family back and forth across the country, finally settling back in New York City.

ALBERT SAVAGE

ORWELL — Albert Savage, 82, a longtime resident of Orwell, passed away peacefully Sunday morning, March 24, 2013, at Shard Villa in Salisbury with his wife by his side.

He was born May 22, 1930, in White River Junction, the son of George and Laura (Woodward) Savage.

Mr. Savage graduated from the Hartford High School in 1948.

He married Janet Gray on Oct. 19, 1952.

For several years he was a dairy farmer in White River prior to relocating to Orwell in 1971 where he continued farming. The farm continues to be operated by his son Allen.

THOMAS STASZ

WEYBRIDGE — Thomas E. Stasz, 63, of Weybridge died Saturday, March 16, at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York after a long, heroic battle with myelofibrosis. His family and friends surrounded him at his bedside as snow fell in Central Park.

DAVID GALE

RUTLAND — David Gale, 88, of Rutland, died March 20, 2013, at Rutland Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.

David was born on Nov. 12, 1924, in Greencastle, Ind., the youngest son of Lloyd B. and Hulda M. (Thomas) Gale. He moved to Mendon as a teenager, where his family lived with his grandfather at Mendon Mountain Orchards. He graduated from Rutland High School in 1942.

TRACEY SUMNER

MONKTON — Tracey Francis Sumner, 87, died Friday, March 22, 2013, at his home in Monkton.

He was born March 19, 1926, in Bristol, the son of Berley and Anna Hallock Sumner.

He worked for many years at Lathrop Lumber Mill in Bristol. His family says he enjoyed walking around Bristol until he moved to Monkton where he lived with his son and family until his death.

Submitting an obituary

The Addison Independent publishes paid obituaries and free notices of passing. Paid obituaries cost 25-cents per word, and $10 per photo. The obituary will publish as it is submitted on the date of the family’s choosing.

For those who do not wish to purchase an obituary, the Addison Independent offers anyone with a local connection the opportunity to publish a notice of passing. These notices may be up to 100 words and are subject to editing by our news department.

Submissions must be received by 11 a.m. on Wednesday for publication in the Thursday paper and 11 a.m. on Friday for Monday’s paper.

Generally, obituaries follow this form:
TOWN — Name, age, of town, died on date, of cause of death. He/She was born on date in town, the son/daughter of father's name and mother's name, including maiden name in parentheses.

Then include a paragraph or two about where the person went to school and what they did for work; where they lived, who they married and when.

Add a sentence or two about what made the person special to family and friends, including hobbies, avocations or other telling details about their life.

He/She is survived by spouse's name; children named individually (and their spouses and towns of residence, if appropriate); siblings named individually; number of grandchildren, parents or other immediate family members.

He/She was predeceased by names of immediate family members.

A memorial service will be held (fill in details of date, time, and place, plus officiate if applicable) with interment at (place). Memorial contributions may be made to (name and complete address, if applicable).
