PATTY PAIGE

BROWNINGTON/ORWELL — Patty Paige, 67, died Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2014, in Orwell at the home of her brother, Peter.

She was born in Enosburg on Nov. 23, 1946, the daughter of Ernest Paige and Glenna Pudvah. She received her education in Richford.

GLORIA WADE

SHELBURNE — Gloria J. Wade, 68, of Shelburne died Jan. 20, 2014, at her home after a brief illness.

She was born Feb. 28, 1945, in Middlebury, daughter of Nelson A. and Buelah I. (Ladue) Eubar. She worked at Simmonds Precision for 20-plus years. She most recently was employed by Kinney Drugs and her family says she enjoyed working with what she called her “other family.”

LORETTA DEGRAY

MIDDLEBURY — Loretta Alice DeGray, 77, died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2014, at Porter Medical Center in Middlebury.

She was born in Portland, Maine, on March 5, 1936. She grew up in Brunswick, Maine, where she received her early education. June 30, 1955, she married Gerald Stanley DeGray Sr. in Brunswick. Following her husband’s honorable discharge from the United States Navy they moved to Middlebury in 1959.

She attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Her relatives say she enjoyed family gatherings, cooking and collecting unicorn figurines.

JAMES WALKER

PLANT CITY, Fla. — James Barnard Walker, 93, of Plant City, Fla., died Monday, Jan. 13, 2014.

He was born in Benson, Vt., on Feb. 22, 1920. He was the son of Merrill and Adeline (Adams) Walker. He received his early education in local Benson schools and graduated from Vermont School of Agriculture, now VTC in Randolph, class of 1939.

BETSY WILLIAMS

RIPTON — Betsy A. Williams, 70, of Ripton died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014, at 11 a.m. at the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the service at 11 a.m.

THOMAS VIENS

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. — Thomas A. “Tommy” Viens, 50, of Plainville, Conn., and most recently of New Britain, Conn., died unexpectedly after a short illness. He was born on Sept. 25, 1963, in Saint Albans, Vt. He was raised in both Nashua, N.H., and Saint Albans, Vt., attending Bellows Free Academy.

His relatives say he was a free spirit who was talented in both art and interior decorating. Never at a loss for words, he was a gifted communicator. They say his family and especially his children were always in his heart and on his mind.

ANDREW HENDERSON

SALISBURY — Andrew Ross Henderson, 59, died Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014, at his residence in Salisbury.

He was born Nov. 15, 1954, the son of the late Henry H. and Dorothy Mae (Hurlburt) Henderson.

He attended schools in Windsor and Vergennes. He was a graduate of Vergennes High School.

RICHARD LACHER

MIDDLEBURY — Richard W. Lacher, 97, of Middlebury died Monday, Dec. 30, 2013, at his home at the Lodge at Otter Creek.

Richard William Lacher was born May 25, 1916, in Chicago, Ill., the youngest of four sons of Walter S. and Winona H. (Hammitt) Lacher. He was raised in LaGrange, Ill. He earned his Bachelor of Science at the University of Wisconsin in Madison and his Juris Doctorate fromDePaul University in Chicago. Richard was a patent attorney for Universal Oil Products in Desplains, Ill., for over 40 years.

EMERY BOOSKA

MILTON, N.H. — Emery Pierre Booska, 80, of Milton, N.H., passed away on Jan. 12, 2014. He was born in Bristol, Vt., on Oct. 19, 1933, the son of Carl P. and Gertrude A. (Gebo) Booska. Emery grew up in Orwell, Vt., and graduated from Brandon High School, class of 1951. He went on to earn a B.S. in Agricultural Science from the University of Vermont in 1956. Emery continued his education at the University of New Hampshire attaining an M.S. in Agricultural Education in 1967.

CONSTANCE TOMAINO

ORWELL, Vt./COLONIAL BEACH, Va. — Constance “Connie” Tomaino, 91, formerly of Orwell, died peacefully at home surrounded by family on Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014, after a brief illness.

She was born May 14, 1922, in Westfield, Pa., the daughter of Roy and Edith Wilbur Clow. She married Joseph Tomaino in 1942 and the two resided in Orwell for over 40 years. Following the death of her husband in 2012, she moved to Colonial Beach, Va., to be close to her daughter, Rosan.

Submitting an obituary

The Addison Independent publishes paid obituaries and free notices of passing. Paid obituaries cost 25-cents per word, and $10 per photo. The obituary will publish as it is submitted on the date of the family’s choosing.

For those who do not wish to purchase an obituary, the Addison Independent offers anyone with a local connection the opportunity to publish a notice of passing. These notices may be up to 100 words and are subject to editing by our news department.

Submissions must be received by 11 a.m. on Wednesday for publication in the Thursday paper and 11 a.m. on Friday for Monday’s paper.

Generally, obituaries follow this form:
TOWN — Name, age, of town, died on date, of cause of death. He/She was born on date in town, the son/daughter of father's name and mother's name, including maiden name in parentheses.

Then include a paragraph or two about where the person went to school and what they did for work; where they lived, who they married and when.

Add a sentence or two about what made the person special to family and friends, including hobbies, avocations or other telling details about their life.

He/She is survived by spouse's name; children named individually (and their spouses and towns of residence, if appropriate); siblings named individually; number of grandchildren, parents or other immediate family members.

He/She was predeceased by names of immediate family members.

A memorial service will be held (fill in details of date, time, and place, plus officiate if applicable) with interment at (place). Memorial contributions may be made to (name and complete address, if applicable).
