RICHARD DeRAGON

BRISTOL — Richard Charles DeRagon, 72, died Sunday, Oct. 27, 2013, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington.

He was born Nov. 13, 1940, in Hartford, Conn., the son of Romeo and Ida Cyr DeRagon.

He was a member of VFW, American Legion Post 19, USS Nautilus Alumni, Vermont Street Rodders and St. Ambrose Church. He owned and managed Park Filling Station for 18 years from December 1985 to December 2004.

THERESA GIBEAU

FERRISBURGH — Theresa Gibeau, 83, died Thursday, Oct. 22, 2013, at Helen Porter Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center in Middlebury.

She was born May 12, 1930, in Nicole, Canada, the daughter of Alcide and Sadie Laflam Gibeau.

She is survived by several cousins.

A graveside service was held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 30, at St. Peter’s Cemetery in Vergennes. Memorial contributions may be made to Helen Porter Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center, 30 Porter Drive, Middlebury, VT 05753.

BETTY LITTLE

RUTLAND — Betty A. Little, 85, died Oct. 21, 2013, in Rutland, Vt. Throughout her life, Betty encouraged, supported, organized and involved people. The daughter of Joseph H. “Mac” McMullen and Frances Drewry McMullen, she grew up in Short Hills, N.J., and was a graduate of Kent Place School in Summit. She was a graduate of Oberlin College and received an M.A. from Columbia University and a Ph.D. from Walden University.

JAMES MONGER

PRESCOTT, Ariz./NEW HAVEN, Vt. —James Meryll Monger, a resident of Prescott, Ariz., returned to God, peacefully on Oct. 22, 2013, at age 91 in New Haven, Vt., where he was being cared for by his son Daniel and daughter-in-law Cathleen Teel.

KATHLEEN MOORE

BENSON — Kathleen D. Moore, 61, of Benson and a former resident of Middlebury died Tuesday evening, Oct. 22, 2013, at the Rutland Regional Medical Center.

She was born Sept. 28, 1952, the daughter of Julies and Barbara (Pidgeon) Denis. She graduated from Middlebury Union High School in 1970. She married Mark “Skip” Moore on Sept. 18, 1996.

She was employed delivering mail for the U.S. Postal Service out of the Middlebury Post Office for 26 years until her retirement in 2011.

Her family says she enjoyed sewing and gardening.

WINTHROP “PEANUT” THOMPSON JR.

SOUTH STARKSBORO — Winthrop R. “Peanut” Thompson Jr., 47, died Sunday, Oct. 27, 2013, at Rutland Regional Hospital.

He was born March 17, 1966, in Middlebury, the son of Winthrop and Mary Demars Thompson Sr.

His family says he enjoyed fishing, hunting, four-wheeling, snowmobiling, having fun and helping people.

EUGENIA “JEANNIE” MacMURTRY

BRANDON — Eugenia Rose “Jeannie” MacMurtry, 90, died Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013, at Wintergreen Residential Care in Brandon.

She was born in Brandon on Jan. 18, 1923. She was the daughter of Eugene and Mary (Brown) Ellis. She grew up in Brandon where she received her early education. She graduated from Brandon High School, class of 1941. During World War II she worked at Pratt-Whitney Aircraft Corp. in Hartford, Conn. She later moved to Miami, Fla., for a short time but lived most of her life in Brandon.

KIMBERLY PATTEN

PITTSFORD — Kimberly Anne “Kim” Patten, 52, of Pittsford died on Oct. 22, 2013, at the Cancer Center of America in Philadelphia, Pa.

She was born Aug. 7, 1961, in Rutland. Most of her childhood was spent in East Lyme, Conn., but she moved with her family back to Vermont in 1976 and graduated from Otter Valley Union high School in 1979.

JOHN C. SAVALLI JR.

ADDISON — John C. Savalli Jr., 65, of Addison died unexpectedly on Oct. 22, 2013, at Fletcher Allen Hospital in Burlington.

He was born on April 11, 1948, in Brooklyn, N.Y., the son of the late John C. Savalli Sr. and Emelia (Fucci) Savalli.

Submitting an obituary

The Addison Independent publishes paid obituaries and free notices of passing. Paid obituaries cost 25-cents per word, and $10 per photo. The obituary will publish as it is submitted on the date of the family’s choosing.

For those who do not wish to purchase an obituary, the Addison Independent offers anyone with a local connection the opportunity to publish a notice of passing. These notices may be up to 100 words and are subject to editing by our news department.

Submissions must be received by 11 a.m. on Wednesday for publication in the Thursday paper and 11 a.m. on Friday for Monday’s paper.

Generally, obituaries follow this form:
TOWN — Name, age, of town, died on date, of cause of death. He/She was born on date in town, the son/daughter of father's name and mother's name, including maiden name in parentheses.

Then include a paragraph or two about where the person went to school and what they did for work; where they lived, who they married and when.

Add a sentence or two about what made the person special to family and friends, including hobbies, avocations or other telling details about their life.

He/She is survived by spouse's name; children named individually (and their spouses and towns of residence, if appropriate); siblings named individually; number of grandchildren, parents or other immediate family members.

He/She was predeceased by names of immediate family members.

A memorial service will be held (fill in details of date, time, and place, plus officiate if applicable) with interment at (place). Memorial contributions may be made to (name and complete address, if applicable).
