JAY TORREY SR.

SALISBURY — Jay Kevin Torrey, Sr., 64, a lifelong Salisbury resident and loving father of his two children and many others that he took under his wing throughout the years, passed away suddenly at Porter Hospital surrounded by his beloved family on Tuesday, June 9, 2015.

CHRISTA ALESHIRE

MIDDLEBURY — Christa Onion Aleshire, 60, of Middlebury died June 2, 2015, at UVM Medical Center in Burlington.

She was born in Rutland on Sept. 1, 1954, daughter of Carlos L. and Catherine (Cannon) Onion.

She was a 1972 graduate of Mount St. Joseph Academy. She attended Emerson College for a year, and Windham College for three years.

She married Michael C. Aleshire on Nov. 3, 1984.She was a longtime Wallingford resident.

MICHAEL BINGHAM

LINCOLN — Michael Bingham, 54, passed on May 21 in his Lincoln home following a short illness. Born Sept 4, 1960, son of Gordon and Gertrude (Roscoe) Bingham.

Mike was a carpenter by trade. He was a nature lover, bird watcher and gardener. An avid hunter and fisherman. A true “Free Spirit.”

He is survived by a son, Joshua; brother, Robert (Mary); and sisters Lynn, Janie (Doug), and Nancy (Roger). He was predeceased by his father, sister Colleen and brother John.

THOMAS COX

BRANDON — Thomas John Cox, 79, died Saturday, June 6, 2015, at his home in Brandon.

He was born in Greenwich, N.Y., on April 16, 1936. He was the son of Edward and Gladys (Weir) Cox. He grew up in Greenwich, where he received his education in local schools.

He was employed by Agway Petroleum for many years and was instrumental in establishing the local Middlebury Agway. He was a charter member of the Pittsford Lions Club.

CLAIRE DUCLOS

VERGENNES — A Mass of Christian burial for Claire (Barrows) Duclos, who died Nov. 28, 2014, will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 24, 2015, at 11 a.m. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Vergennes. Burial will be at Prospect Cemetery, with a reception to follow at St. Peter’s Parish Hall.

ANNETTA GLEASON

SALISBURY — Annetta Mackey Gleason, 96, passed away June 8 at Shard Villa in Salisbury, her much loved home of the last few years, and she died as she had lived, with great strength and grace.

Annetta was born in North Adams, MA, the oldest of Dr. Michael and Evelyn Gangemi’s five children. She received her early education in North Adams and then went to Springfield College where she earned a nursing degree and met her first husband, Stub.

JACOB GORTON

BRISTOL — Jacob Kenneth Gorton, 15, of Bristol passed on May 10, 2015, after a three-year battle with T-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia at St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn., surrounded by family.

He was born May 2, 2000, son of Jackie and Kathleen (Bullock) Gorton Sr.

ROGER KILBURN

VERGENNES — Roger Duane Kilburn, 62, of Vergennes died on June 4, 2015, at his home.

He was born to Robert and Florence (Root) Kilburn on Dec. 4, 1952, in Colchester, the second youngest of 10 children. He spent the good part of 40 years as a mason building hundreds of commercial buildings throughout Vermont and New Hampshire. In his 40s, he earned an accounting degree from Champlain College and held an accounting position for several years before returning to masonry.

J.K. STEWART KIRKALDY

MIDDLEBURY — A memorial service in the manner of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) will be held on Saturday, June 20, for J.K. Stewart Kirkaldy of Middlebury, who died at the age of 86 on May 19, 2015.

The service will take place at 2 p.m. at the Havurah House, where also the Middlebury Monthly Meeting of Friends gathers, at 56 North Pleasant St. in Middlebury. Light snacks will be offered following the service.

A second service has been scheduled on July 25 in his former hometown of Westport, Mass., at the Westport Monthly Meeting of Friends.

EVAN LITTLEFIELD

GREENVILLE, R.I. — Dr. Evan B. Littlefield of Greenville, R.I., passed away on June 10, 2015, at the age of 90.

Submitting an obituary

The Addison Independent publishes paid and free obituaries. Paid obituaries run just as submitted with a charge of $9.00 per column inch, and the editor shapes free obituaries to conform to our editorial style. We run photos of the person if they are submitted in a relatively high-quality format.

Generally, obituaries follow this form:
TOWN - Name, age, of town, died on date, of cause of death. He/She was born on date in town, the son/daughter of father's name and mother's name, including maiden name in parentheses.

Then include a paragraph or two about where the person went to school and what they did for work; where they lived, who they married and when.

Add a sentence or two about what made the person special to family and friends, including hobbies, avocations or other telling details about their life.

He/She is survived by spouse's name; children named individually (and their spouses and towns of residence, if appropriate); siblings named individually; number of grandchildren, parents or other immediate family members.

He/She was predeceased by names of immediate family members.

A memorial service will be held (fill in details of date, time, and place, plus officiate if applicable) with interment at (place). Memorial contributions may be made to (name and complete address, if applicable).
